- To view the entire example or copy it to a project, tick the check box to the left of the example, and click "copy to your project"
- 00:00 So you've created your new 1000minds account,
- 00:06 and now you're wondering where to start.
- 00:11 When we log into our account, the first thing we'll see is this page,
- 00:15 which gives us an overview of our projects if we have any.
- 00:20 Here we have the option to create a new project decision or survey,
- 00:25 easily access any decision or survey that we recently worked on,
- 00:30 and view and organize all our existing projects and surveys.
- 00:36 To get started, we'll create a new project.
- 00:39 This is where all the decisions and surveys
- 00:41 pertaining to a particular objective will be located.
- 00:46 Let's name this project funding and budgeting.
- 00:49 Here we'll put in all the decisions and surveys
- 00:51 that relate to how our organisation allocates funding.
- 00:57 Now we see the project that we just created down here.
- 01:02 There are a couple things that we can do with it.
- 01:05 When hovering over the project,
- 01:07 this little pencil icon appears next to the name, and
- 01:12 we can click on it to edit the name of our project at any time.
- 01:17 We won't be working on this project alone, so
- 01:19 we want to invite other people to collaborate on this project with us.
- 01:25 To do that, we'll click on this arrow on the right and
- 01:29 enter the email addresses of the people we want to share the project with.
- 01:34 We can also decide whether we want each participant to be able to edit
- 01:39 the project, which means they can change decisions and
- 01:43 surveys that are in there or create new ones to.
- 01:47 Or if we only want them to be able to view it without changing anything.
- 01:53 When you invite someone, they'll get an email to let them know.
- 01:57 And if they don't have a 1000minds account yet,
- 02:00 it will invite them to sign up.
- 02:03 By clicking on the little information icon on the right,
- 02:07 we can see when this project was created and last modified.
- 02:13 If we click on this icon on a decision or survey,
- 02:16 we can see a little more information about it.
- 02:22 Anytime we want to delete an item, we can do so by clicking on the Delete icon.
- 02:29 This won't permanently delete the item, it'll just send it to
- 02:33 the deleted items page, which we can access through the menu on the left.
- 02:40 Here we can always restore any item at any time we like.
- 02:45 So we don't have to worry about a deleted item being gone forever.
- 02:52 Keep in mind that if you delete a shared item, then it will be deleted for
- 02:56 everyone that the item was shared with.
- 02:59 If you want to remove a project but don't want to delete it for
- 03:03 everyone, you can always just and share it with yourself.
- 03:08 We can use 1000minds for all sorts of decisions.
- 03:12 If you want some ideas for different applications that we can use 1000minds for,
- 03:17 and how to structure our decisions.
- 03:20 We can go to the examples page.
- 03:23 Here we have a variety of demos that we can look at to familiarize ourselves
- 03:28 with the software.
- 03:31 We can either filter these examples by a specific term, or
- 03:35 narrow them down by topic.
- 03:38 Let's say we're a health organization.
- 03:40 So we may be interested in looking at examples involving COVID.
- 03:45 We can click on that tag to view only those examples.
- 03:50 We could also look at examples in the health sector.
- 03:55 Choosing new health technologies for a hospital,
- 03:58 sounds like it could be really useful.
- 04:00 So, we'll click on that example to view more information.
- 04:05 This shows us the criteria, the costs and other considerations,
- 04:10 and the alternatives, which in this case are different proposals.
- 04:14 To take a closer look at this example,
- 04:17 we'll check the box next to its name and click on copy to your project.
- 04:24 In this case, let's create a new project.
- 04:28 Once we've done that, we can view this decision in more detail and
- 04:33 think about potentially adapting it to our organization's needs.
- 04:37 Now that we're more familiar with what a decision looks like, let's create our own.
- 04:44 One of the things that we want to find out is what hospital projects to allocate
- 04:48 our budget to.
- 04:50 To get started with this decision.
- 04:52 We can either click on new decision up here or
- 04:56 click on the project folder and create a new decision here.
- 05:00 A decision is used for prioritizing or choosing between alternatives,
- 05:05 and it can be done either alone or with a group.
- 05:10 If more than one person is involved,
- 05:12 then the participants make trade-offs together so as to facilitate discussion.
- 05:18 And 1000minds has a super cool voting feature built in,
- 05:22 that helps you make decisions together.
- 05:26 A survey is used more to gather people's preferences, usually for
- 05:31 market research or to gather opinions on categorizations.
- 05:35 Unlike in a decision, participants in a survey can respond to questions on
- 05:40 their own time, so it's less suited for discussion between participants.
- 05:46 Since our main objective in this case is to choose projects to allocate money to,
- 05:51 let's create a decision.
- 05:53 Later, we can use the voting feature in our decision to get the input
- 05:57 of our colleagues.
- 05:59 We'll call this decision, hospital projects to be funded.
- 06:04 And now we can get started on our decision.
