Overview of the Menus
In addition to the tools and panels, the menus are among the most useful sections of the program.
When to use
Menus can be used to do everything from opening, saving, printing, and creating files, to changing the size of an image, opening panels, and finding help in Photoshop.
Instructions
- Beginning with the Photoshop Menu, you can click on this menu to Hide Photoshop, Hide Other applications, and you can also Quit Photoshop from here.
- In the File Menu, you can create documents, open or save them, import or export files, print, and even use Automation and Scripts.
- Under the Edit Menu, you can Undo, Redo, Cut, Copy, Paste, and you also have some more advanced functions such as Perspective Warp and Sky Replacement.
- The next menu is the Image Menu, and this is where you can check the size of your image, the size of your canvas, change Color Modes, and you can also rotate your image or apply Adjustments via this menu.
- Next to the Image Menu is the Layer Menu, and this is where you will find many of the functions related to layers such as adding New Layers, Fill Layers, and Adjustment Layers.
- Under the Type Menu, you will have options to find fonts on Adobe Fonts, Match Fonts, and Managing Missing Fonts.
- The Select Menu is where you will find options for doing things like selecting a Subject or a Sky, and Select and Mask.
- The Filter Menu is where you will find all of the built-in Filters and Neural Filters along with Camera Raw options and even third-party filters such as Topaz.
- The View Menu is where you can go to do things like Zoom In, Zoom Out, fitting your image to your screen, and you can also find your Rulers under this menu. With your Rulers, you will also have the option to Snap your guides, which will help you find the edges of a shape more easily.
- The next menu is the Plugins Menu where you can add or browse third-party plugins.
- After that is the Window Menu, and this is where all of your panels can be found. This is also where you can choose how you'd like to arrange your windows when you have multiple documents open at the same time.
- The last menu is the Help Menu, and this is where you can search for something if you ever feel lost or need to remember where to find a certain tool or effect.
Hints & tips
- Command/Ctrl + Z is the keyboard shortcut for Undo.
- You can turn your Rulers on and off using the keyboard shortcut Command/Ctrl + R.
- If you ever forget where something is in Photoshop, you can quickly type it into the Help Menu.
