About this lesson
Recapping the main goals of this course to help you improve your interview skills.
-
00:04
I hope this course has given you some helpful tips and a way of really
-
00:08
planning on how you conduct job interviews for your organization.
-
00:13
I do want to leave you with a few final thoughts though.
-
00:17
This is, and it sounds silly to say, but at some level, this is a bit of an honour.
-
00:21
You are the person in your organization selected to represent
-
00:25
the entire organization to the outside world.
-
00:29
It's also a responsibility because if you come across as obnoxious,
-
00:34
arrogant, snotty, that can really harm your organization's reputation.
-
00:40
However, if you come across as interesting, likeable,
-
00:44
enthusiastic and passionate about your organisation.
-
00:47
That can travel to ,that can help build the brand of your organisation and
-
00:52
it can build your own personal brand.
-
00:55
So I'm glad you've taken this seriously enough to go through a course like
-
00:58
this because most people don't.
-
01:01
Most people say I gotta do job interviews.
-
01:02
Okay, let me look at the resume.
-
01:04
Tell me about yourself, blah, blah, blah, did you graduate and
-
01:08
they're not really adding much value to the process.
-
01:13
They're certainly not helping to advance the brand of the organization.
-
01:18
They're not making people feel better about it.
-
01:20
So, I commend you for taking the time to try to figure out how to do this.
-
01:26
I also hope that you're just more comfortable with the process.
-
01:30
I suspect by even signing up for a class like this,
-
01:33
you weren't completely comfortable with the idea of talking
-
01:37
to strangers about their entire careers and lives.
-
01:41
That just makes you normal.
-
01:42
It is a little bit of an uncomfortable situation for most people.
-
01:47
Now I've given you a lot of specific tips and tricks and tools in this course.
-
01:53
You can ignore most of them.
-
01:54
You can ignore all of them but one,
-
01:57
the one tip I absolutely have to insist on you following.
-
02:01
Is practice on video, practice how you want to talk about your company.
-
02:06
Practice your first handful of questions and get comfortable with that.
-
02:12
Watch it, critique it, figure out what works.
-
02:17
Do more and more of it.
-
02:18
That's so much better than practicing in front of a mirror.
-
02:22
Or not practicing at all and just head down reading questions or
-
02:27
reading a resume.
-
02:29
That's the worst of all possible worlds to do in a job interview.
-
02:35
Let's not lose sight of the fundamental goal.
-
02:37
The goal is to figure out who is the best applicant for your company so
-
02:41
you can give that person a job offer.
-
02:44
The goal is also to impress that person because the very
-
02:48
best people have a lot of different job options these days.
-
02:53
So it's a two way street, never forget that.
-
02:56
And of course the goal is for you to come across confident, comfortable, relaxed and
-
03:02
to really communicate the essence of what your organization is about.
-
03:06
Those are the three goals we set out to accomplish at the beginning of this
-
03:11
course.
-
03:12
And if you follow the exercises I think you'll have a much better sense of how
-
03:16
to accomplish it.
-
03:18
So thank you so much for joining me,
-
03:20
I wish you luck with all of your future job interviews.
-
03:23
I'm TJ Walker, thanks for watching.
