Course Introduction
Welcome to 'Excel for Business Analysts.' My name is Deborah Ashby, I'm a Microsoft Instructor and I'll be your host for this course.
The Role of a Business Analyst
The role of a Business Analyst is very much data-driven. It's our job to organize, manage, interpret, analyze, and present data in a clear and concise way. In turn, this can help our company make better business decisions. Excel is one of the tools that can help us with this.
Excel contains many awesome tools that help us deep dive into data. We can use formulas to extract information, PivotTables, and Pivot Charts to analyze our data in different ways. We can even present our results on an interactive dashboard to really wow our managers and colleagues.

- 00:09 My name is Deborah Ashby.
- 00:11 I'm a Microsoft trainer and subject matter expert who's been training Excel for
- 00:16 over 20 years now to students all around the world.
- 00:19 I've also trained and worked very closely with many,
- 00:22 many business analysts over the years.
- 00:25 And I've really come to understand how they work, and
- 00:29 in particular, how they use Excel as part of their role.
- 00:33 The role of a business analyst is very much a data driven role,
- 00:36 particularly these days.
- 00:38 Most of us are being bombarded with data that we need to make sense of.
- 00:44 So whether you are a fully fledged business analyst or
- 00:48 a kind of reluctant one, then this course is for you.
- 00:52 We're going to take a look at some of the best analytical tools that
- 00:56 are available in Excel to help us manage, organize, interpret, and
- 01:01 present data so that you or your company can make better business decisions.
- 01:07 That ranges from knowing which formulas to use,
- 01:10 how to work with things like pivot tables, and create stunning interactive
- 01:15 dashboards to lesser known utilities like what if analysis and forecasting.
- 01:20 This course is broken down into 11 logical sections that we're going to
- 01:25 work through together.
- 01:26 You can download all of the files that I'm using in the demonstration so
- 01:30 that you can practice along with me.
- 01:32 And at the end of every lesson, you can also download an exercise file so
- 01:36 that you can practice the skills that you've learnt.
- 01:40 So that is pretty much it.
- 01:41 It's time for you to grab yourselves a drink,
- 01:43 make sure you're sitting comfortably.
- 01:45 I'm very excited to be hosting this course for you, and
