Project Plans Explained
Compare the three Project plans: Plan 1, Plan 3, and Plan 5.
When to use
Compare project plans so we make the most appropriate and cost-effective choice for our needs.
Instructions
Project is a subscription application. To use Project for the Web, we need to purchase a subscription to either Plan 1, Plan 3, or Plan 5. Each plan gives us varying levels of functionality.
Plan 1, Plan 3, and Plan 5 are new revamped plans that have been brought in by Microsoft to standardize its naming conventions. These renamed plans now fall in line with Microsoft's enterprise plans E1, E3, and E5.
Project for the Web is accessible regardless of the plan we have purchased. All three plans come with Project for the Web.
Plan 1
Plan 1 formerly Project Essentials gives us access to use Project for the Web only. It's good for teams looking for a cost-effective, simple project management tool.
Plan 3
Plan 3 formerly Project Online Professional gives us access to Project for the Web, Project Online, and advanced tools in Project Desktop Client. This plan is suitable for most project managers and teams that require more complexity than Project for the Web.
Plan 5
Plan 5 formerly known as Project Online Premium gives us access to everything in Plan 1 and Plan 3 with additional advanced portfolio management tools. Plan 5 is perfect for the project manager who needs to manage and report on large complex projects.
