- 00:04 In this lesson we're going to talk about creating and applying styles.
- 00:07 Now we've already worked with styles once in this course.
- 00:10 They're on the Home ribbon, over on the right-hand side, a little Styles Gallery,
- 00:15 and click the drop down and you can see all of the different existing styles.
- 00:19 What we're going to do is actually apply a style, tweak it a little,
- 00:23 and then create our own from that.
- 00:25 So let's go ahead and do this.
- 00:27 Let's start in the paragraph line we want to work with,
- 00:30 Microsoft Heading Style 1.
- 00:32 And I'll come up to the gallery and I'll just go ahead and apply Heading Style 1.
- 00:37 Well now that that is applied, I'll go ahead and select that.
- 00:42 And I'm going to change this up.
- 00:44 Since my Menu Bar offers me base level formatting, I'll go ahead and
- 00:47 use it right here.
- 00:48 I would like this style to be green.
- 00:51 And I'm going to change the font to Ariel.
- 00:57 And I think I want to make that size 14.
- 01:02 Okay, I like it, that's the style I want to keep.
- 01:06 So again, I'm just going to make sure it is selected.
- 01:07 I'm going to come up to the gallery and take a look at the bottom of the list.
- 01:13 Create Style, Clear Formatting or Apply Styles.
- 01:18 So let's go ahead and hit the Create Style button.
- 01:21 I'll go ahead and name it My Style.
- 01:27 And we have the option to OK it, modify it, or cancel it.
- 01:32 We'll do a modify in the next lesson but right now we're just going to go ahead and
- 01:36 OK this one.
- 01:37 Perfect, now take a look at the Styles Gallery.
- 01:40 Look at the very first one, My Style, very cool.
- 01:43 Let's apply it to the next line.
- 01:46 I'll click on the line, applying My Style, and
- 01:50 I will adjust it slightly I'll lower it down to 12 point,
- 01:55 think I will I tell a size it.
- 01:58 And now I'm going to come right over here,
- 02:02 Create a Style, and tell it My Style too.
- 02:09 And hit OK.
- 02:10 All right, now it's just easy to click on here and apply the styles.
- 02:15 When if you've got a long document though?
- 02:17 You can actually click on one style.
- 02:19 Notice the arrow, there's a little pixie dust off to the left.
- 02:22 These little collapse arrows are always beside headings, and so
- 02:26 you can collapse whatever is underneath them.
- 02:29 So any random text that is not styled, will collapse into that one.
- 02:34 All right, so I've got Heading Style 1.
- 02:36 All right, click, and I'll click on my paintbrush.
- 02:39 A single click allows me to use it once.
- 02:42 A double-click allows me to use it until I'm finished with it.
- 02:46 So, I will double-click this one and
- 02:48 I'll come just apply it on the rest of the lines.
- 02:51 Well now that little paintbrush is still attached to my mouse, so
- 02:55 I have to either turn off that paintbrush on the Home ribbon or press the Escape,
- 02:59 key does the same thing.
- 03:01 I'll hit Escape.
- 03:02 I'll apply the Sub-Heading Style 2.
- 03:08 Hit Paintbrush.
- 03:09 Come down here to My Company Style 2 and change it, okay?
- 03:13 So that is why we use the paintbrush.
- 03:16 Fantastic to paint format, not text.
- 03:21 It'll copy format in paint format, and it's called the paint for matter.
- 03:26 And in my opinion, it's a second best button ever invented by Microsoft,
- 03:31 it's wonderful.
- 03:32 Okay, go ahead and practice styles and
- 03:36 meet me in the next lesson and we will modify the styles.
