Clean up your menu interface.
When to use
Getting overwhelmed in the clutter of dropdown menu items? With this quick tip you can hide the menu items that you don’t ever use. Good for experienced users who are familiar with what they want to keep and what to hide.
Instructions
Prepare
- Take a note of the menu locations and the options that you want to hide.
Example: Menu/Image/Calculations
Hide the specific menu items
- Go to Menu/Edit/Menus.
In the windows menu tab choose section (in this case Image), then scroll down to the item that you want to hide (in this example Calculations). Then click off the Visibility icon - Press OK and then check the Menu/Image dropdown to see that it is now not there.
Tip: Shortcut keys
Go to Menu/Edit/Menus.
In the Shortcut tab you can adjust the short cut options.
- 00:04 Anyone who's familiar with Photoshop knows that there are a ton of menu items.
- 00:07 If I go up to the top to the Edit menu there's a whole long list.
- 00:10 Image menu, Layer, Type, Select.
- 00:13 Sometimes you just want to keep things clean.
- 00:14 For instance, if I go over to the Image menu,
- 00:17 I go down to here to the bottom, I don't use half of this stuff.
- 00:19 I don't use Calculations, I don't use Variables, I don't use Apply Data Set,
- 00:23 I don't use Trap.
- 00:24 So I wanna be able to hide some of those items to keep my menus nice and clean.
- 00:27 So how do you do that?
- 00:28 Well, it is actually very simple.
- 00:30 Under the Edit menu, down at the bottom where Keyboard Shortcuts is,
- 00:33 you want to go one more down to the Menus item.
- 00:36 And when you click on this, you get the keyboard shortcuts and
- 00:38 menu dialogue box, where you can customize your keyboard shortcuts in this tab here,
- 00:43 or your menus in this tab.
- 00:44 And all you have to do is browse these lists for
- 00:47 the menu items that you don't want.
- 00:48 So for example, under the Image menu, I'm gonna scroll down until I see those menu
- 00:52 items that I don't want visible, right down here, there's Calculations, and
- 00:58 you just press the eye icon to the right to turn off visibility.
- 01:01 I'm gonna turn off Calculations.
- 01:03 I'm gonna turn off Variables, which turns off all the sub menus.
- 01:07 I'm gonna turn off Apply Data Set, and Trap.
- 01:09 And when I press OK, if I go back up to my Image menu,
- 01:13 you'll notice that those options are now gone.
- 01:16 Of course, if I decide to use them in the future, which honestly I probably won't,
- 01:19 I can always go back and turn those visibilities back on.
- 01:23 So, for someone who likes to keep their work space nice and
- 01:25 clean, being able to turn on or off the menu items can be a huge help.
