Hints & tips
- Format text contained within a text box by selecting the text or clicking on the placeholder.
- Improve your efficiency by duplicating text boxes and shapes that are already formatted.
- A wider selection of icons can be found on the Noun Project website.
- 00:04 Welcome back to part 2 where this lesson continues.
- 00:08 Now I need to add some icons into the center of the shapes.
- 00:12 Now before I do that, I'm going to do Ctrl Shift G to ungroup these shapes and
- 00:16 make them individual objects again.
- 00:18 Now icons can be a really effective way of adding interest into your slides.
- 00:24 And I showed you on the previous lessons, the noun project website where you can go
- 00:28 to access 1000s and 1000s of different icons.
- 00:31 But PowerPoint does also contain its own icon library.
- 00:36 So in this example, let's use some of those icons instead.
- 00:40 So up to insert in the illustrations group, let's click icons.
- 00:46 This pulls up the icon library and we can then search for the icons that we want.
- 00:50 So the first icon I'm going to search for is the world.
- 00:53 So I just need to type in the keyword.
- 00:55 It runs a search and pulls back all matching icons.
- 00:59 So let's choose this one just here and click on Insert.
- 01:04 Now the cool thing about these icons is they are completely customizable,so I can
- 01:09 resize this little guy.
- 01:10 I can go up to the graphics format contextual ribbon and
- 01:13 do things like change the outline, change the fill or even add an effect.
- 01:18 So I'm going to change the fill to white.
- 01:21 And I'm going to drag it down and let's just make this a little bit bigger.
- 01:26 And then I'm going to place it in the center of my circle.
- 01:30 Now again if I want to make sure this is exactly in the center,
- 01:34 if I select the world icon, hold down Shift and select the circle.
- 01:39 I can then use my alignment tools.
- 01:41 And this time I'm going to grab them from the quick access toolbar.
- 01:44 I can go to align, and I can say align center.
- 01:48 And I also want to do align middle,
- 01:50 to make sure that that is exactly in the middle of the circle.
- 01:54 Now I'm going to away and
- 01:56 insert three more icons into these circles in exactly the same way.
- 02:00 So please rejoin me in a couple of seconds.
- 02:03 So the final thing to do here is really just to add in the text.
- 02:06 So I'm going to show you how to add in a couple of text boxes.
- 02:09 But this is pretty much the same as what we've already done.
- 02:12 So let's jump up to insert and add a text box, and
- 02:16 I want this text to say students in 85 countries.
- 02:21 Once again, I don't particularly like that font.
- 02:23 So let's change that.
- 02:25 Let's click the drop down.
- 02:26 I'm going to change that to lato.
- 02:29 And I'm going to center that using my alignment tools in the text box.
- 02:33 And then just position it in the center of this object using that red
- 02:38 dotted guideline.
- 02:40 Now a quick way of adding these other labels in is again just
- 02:43 to duplicate that textbox.
- 02:46 So I'm going to do Ctrl D, drag cross and
- 02:49 I can use my alignment guides to align this text.
- 02:54 And this one is going to say 500+, Courses.
- 03:01 Ctrl D to duplicate again.
- 03:05 We're going to have live training, Ctrl D.
- 03:13 Content creation.
- 03:14 And looking at this font size, I'm actually going to select all of these
- 03:19 text boxes by holding down my Shift key and just clicking, and
- 03:23 I'm going to bring that size down to 16.
- 03:26 And to make things look a little bit neater, once again,
- 03:29 with them all selected, I'm going to use my alignment tools and say align to top.
- 03:33 Now I want to move all of these labels up a little bit closer to their icon.
- 03:39 So let's press Ctrl G to group them and then I can either drag up or
- 03:43 if I want to be a little bit more granular with my movement, I can use the up and
- 03:48 down arrows on my PC.
- 03:52 And that gives me a little bit more control as to exactly where I'm placing
- 03:56 those labels.
- 03:57 Now the final thing to do on this slide is just add a title and a little bit of text.
- 04:02 And once again, I'm just going to insert a text box.
- 04:06 And the title is about us.
- 04:08 Let's change that font and
- 04:10 this time we're going to stick with lato black as this is a heading.
- 04:13 I'm going to make this font a bit bigger.
- 04:15 So let's pump this up to a 44 points, and
- 04:18 I'm also going to change the color to the same color as the title on the title page.
- 04:25 Now I don't want to have expanded character spacing here.
- 04:28 I'm just going to place that somewhere like that.
- 04:32 And the final thing to do is just add another text box with the subheading and
- 04:36 a little bit of information.
- 04:38 And I'm not going to do this Is any differently to how we've been adding text
- 04:41 boxes so far.
- 04:42 So I'm going to do that very quickly off camera and
- 04:45 I'll rejoin you in a couple of seconds.
- 04:47 There we go. With a few additional techniques,
- 04:49 we've been able to create a really nice looking about our slide.
- 04:52 In the next lesson I'm going to talk you through how to create divider slides to
- 04:57 help you organize your presentation.
