Tips for Adding an Event
Adding an event to Google Calendar is super simple. All you need is the event details and you’ll be ready to go. Google Calendar allows you to add a host of detail to events, reducing the chance of you forgetting anything from the location to the attendees.
You can add a variety of detail to each event, like the following:
- Title
- Timings
- All Day/Repeat options
- Location
- Video Call option
- Calendar
- Color on calendar
- Description
- Guest invite
- Notifications
- Visibility
Easy to use and very easy to add and change at any time. Once the event has been added, you’ll be able to access all these details on the Google Calendar homepage or via the app on iOS and Android.

- 00:04 Hello everyone, and welcome back to the essential productivity training.
- 00:08 I'm your host, Francesco D'Alessio, and in today's feature,
- 00:12 we're going to be discussing an introduction to Google Calendar.
- 00:15 Google Calendar is one of the most used calendars around the world.
- 00:19 It's a calendar service created by Google, and it's essentially a way for
- 00:23 you to organize your events and activities pretty easily.
- 00:26 One of the benefits and
- 00:28 leading experiences of Google Calendar is that it's third-party app ready.
- 00:32 Basically a third party allows you to create your own customization and
- 00:38 Google Calendar experience.
- 00:40 It's a good way to bring in other calendars.
- 00:42 So for example, if you are a Google Calendar lover, but
- 00:45 also have a Microsoft Outlook, or
- 00:47 an Apple calendar, you can bring that in using these third party applications.
- 00:51 Google Calendar, as I was mentioning used for planning events and activities,
- 00:56 inviting others to events, subscribing to new calendars and organizing what's on.
- 01:02 So it's a great way just to keep organized for your plans for the week.
- 01:06 Who uses Google Calendar?
- 01:08 The use cases are pretty broad because there's basically no set up,
- 01:12 you just have to get started adding your activities.
- 01:15 The use cases is anyone who needs to plan their week or month ahead.
- 01:19 Google calendar is pretty easy in the visual experience to get started with so
- 01:24 you won't have any problems.
- 01:26 Some examples of people who use it,
- 01:28 professionals like to use Google calendar to organize what's coming up next,
- 01:32 Individuals as a personal and casual way is a great way to plan what's coming up.
- 01:37 Teams and startups can use it to plan all of their activities and
- 01:41 events that they'll be having in the future.
- 01:44 Now why do people use Google Calendar?
- 01:46 There's lots of different features inside of Google Calendar which make it so
- 01:49 useful for someone joining.
- 01:52 You can add events, that's one of the very simple experiences.
- 01:54 And as you can see by this screenshot on the right, this is my Google calendar for
- 01:58 one week.
- 01:59 I'm able to add events like meet Mark and have a call and bump into other people.
- 02:04 Tax meetings and things like that.
- 02:06 And it's a good way as well if you're looking to invite others to an event
- 02:10 that they can quickly be invited, which is so easy to do.
- 02:13 You can subscribe to other calendars as well, so
- 02:16 I'm actually subscribed to my mum's calendar, and my partner's calendar.
- 02:20 And it's a way for me to see that, at a glance, and see what they're getting up to
- 02:24 so that I can either disturb them or plan something with them.
- 02:28 You can do that with other subscriptions, you can subscribe to holidays,
- 02:31 other people's calendars, I actually subscribe to my university
- 02:34 calendar to get all my lectures on my Google Calendar, it's very easy to do.
- 02:39 You can add context to meetings as well, so once you're on there,
- 02:42 you can add a video call.
- 02:43 You can add other information about location and things like that.
- 02:46 So it makes the whole meeting process a lot easier.
- 02:50 And again you can connect it to other apps as well, so
- 02:53 you don't have to just stick with the Google Calendar experience.
- 02:56 The Google Calendar app is available on IOS, Android, and Web.
- 02:59 It's pretty easy to use, well designed, and is a great way to get started.
- 03:03 Although there are some third party resources that I'll recommend
- 03:07 in a feature that we'll be doing in a minute.
- 03:10 Now there are some exercises to get working on how to get started
- 03:13 using Google Calendar.
- 03:14 There will be a cover worked example using all of the features within Google Calendar
- 03:19 which is great, so I'm really looking forward to sharing that with you guys.
- 03:23 And also how to invite new people to Google Calendar, sharing events and
- 03:27 planning events and joining subscriptions,
- 03:29 so that would be a great way to get started.
- 03:32 I'm looking forward to sharing more about Google Calendar.
- 03:35 If you want to just keep with the basic stuff, Google Calendar,
- 03:38 just type it into the Apps stores and you'll be able to find it and
- 03:41 get started really easily start adding those events you want to.
- 03:44 Now the next feature we're going to be discussing third party resources so
- 03:48 that you can customize and go a bit deeper with your calendar experience.
- 03:52 I hope you enjoyed today's feature.
- 03:54 I'm looking forward to the next GoSkills, when we're going to discuss that so
- 03:57 feel free to add any questions or queries you have after the exercises.
- 04:01 I'll see you in the next feature.
- 04:03 Cheers.
