Inserting Page Breaks and Blank Pages
How to control page breaks and add blank pages.
When to use
Inserting a new page, a blank page or breaking to a new page is a simple process, but can be slightly intimidating. Using the Page Break feature is the ideal way to control it.
Instructions:
Note: It is a good practice to View, Navigation Pane. This allows you to observe the pages on the left panel.
1.Using the exercise file, click behind the first line of text: Page 1
2.On the INSERT ribbon, Pages group, click “Page Break”
The Navigation Pane shows two pages.
3.Click behind the line of text: Page 2
4.On the keyboard, press Ctrl Enter (or Ctrl Return)
The Navigation Pane shows three pages.
5.Click behind the line of text: Page 3
6.You choose which method to use: the Insert Ribbon,, or using the keyboard Ctrl Enter.
The Navigation Pane shows four pages.
7.Scroll to Page 2, and click behind the line of text: Page 2
8.On the INSERT ribbon, Pages group, click “Blank Page”
The Navigation Pane shows five total pages, with a blank page as Page 3.
Login to download- 00:05 In this lesson we're gonna start inserting page breaks and
- 00:08 blank pages when you need them to happen.
- 00:11 The first thing I wanna talk to you about, as your navigation pane, please click on
- 00:14 the View ribbon up on top, and over on the left put a check mark on Navigation Pane.
- 00:18 This is very handy when you're working with multiple pages.
- 00:21 And then, of course, we're gonna click the Pages word right here, so
- 00:25 we can see little thumbnails of our pages as they're created.
- 00:29 All right, on the actual exercise, notice I've got Insert Right here, and
- 00:34 then the Pages group.
- 00:36 So I'll click on Insert on my ribbon, then right over here, because my screen
- 00:39 is a little smaller than yours might be, my Pages group is collapsed.
- 00:43 So it's another, just one more click to see Cover Page,
- 00:46 Blank Page In Page Break, that would be the key right here, the Page Break.
- 00:50 All right, when I scroll down to the text, I made it quite large so
- 00:53 we could still see it on the thumbnail off to the left, but basically what we're
- 00:57 going to do is we're going to insert a Page Break right behind this line.
- 01:02 So, Page 1, Click Insert, Pages group, Page Break.
- 01:05 All right, so, I'm going to place my insertion point right here,
- 01:08 that is where I want the page break to happen.
- 01:10 Which will push the next line that says page two, to the top of the next page.
- 01:15 All right? So, I’ve got my insertion point clicked
- 01:18 and click on inset, go to pages and click on page break, there we go.
- 01:23 Now as we can see my navigation pane right over here Page one is at the top,
- 01:27 page two, and that folks is why we use the navigation pane, it's really nice,
- 01:31 and notice right down here I do have page two.
- 01:34 Now the instruction says this time press control enter on the keyboard,
- 01:38 that is the quick way to enter a page break..
- 01:40 That is the way I choose all the time to enter them, so
- 01:43 I am just gonna press right now Ctrl + Enter on my keyboard and
- 01:48 notice right over here that thumbnail identifies page three, I can scroll up and
- 01:52 I can see page two, page one, see how it's happening.
- 01:56 You are in total control of how many pages you have.
- 01:59 Now we're going to, oops, I have a typo, better right click and fix that.
- 02:02 Okay, now we're going to enter a blank page.
- 02:05 Now a blank page will take everything below it and push it to a,
- 02:09 yet another page.
- 02:11 So in this case, I do have to go to the Insert > Pages > Blank Page button,
- 02:17 and so now, my page four is absolutely blank, and
- 02:22 If I scroll down on my navigation plane, I actually have the fifth page that says
- 02:27 Page 4, because it pushed the blank page plus did a page break for
- 02:32 the next one It's all under your control, how you wanna see it.
- 02:37 I'm gonna go ahead and zoom down on this so we can see more of our pages on
- 02:41 this screen, the actual screen, as I scroll on through these.
- 02:45 Because my screen is small you're not seeing everything,
- 02:47 I'm going to double-click my Insert ribbon to collapse my ribbons on top
- 02:52 to hopefully see more on here, there we go, one, two, three, four and five.
- 02:57 I ended up with five pages, but again, it's all up to you.
- 03:01 Now to delete these, to delete page breaks,
- 03:04 let me go ahead and double click insert so you can see my ribbon
- 03:07 on the home ribbon there's this button right over here, it's the paragraph icon.
- 03:11 That shows your codes.
- 03:13 Okay? That's a show hide code.
- 03:14 Now notice at the bottom of this page right here It says page break.
- 03:19 All I have to do is click in front of that page break and
- 03:22 press delete on my keyboard, delete, brought in page two, see?
- 03:27 And notice right over here my page one.
- 03:30 And so now I'll go down to the bottom of this.
- 03:32 There's another page break code.
- 03:33 I'm just going to click in front of it.
- 03:35 Let's see if I can click in front of it, and
- 03:38 hit delete, there we go, and it deleted that one.
- 03:42 So as long as you can see these codes you can delete these codes.
- 03:45 It's just difficult to do it if you can't see them,
- 03:47 which is why I usually work with my show hide codes on and my navigation pane on.
- 03:53 And, I highly recommend that you do the same thing when working because
- 03:57 at this point again you are at an intermediate level.
- 04:00 All right. I'll see you in the next lesson about
- 04:02 cover pages.
- 04:03 Thank you.
