Quick reference
Workspaces and Loop Components
Create a Loop workspace, add pages, and share Loop components.
When to use
We use Microsoft Loop whenever we want to bring content that exists anywhere in Microsoft 365 together in one cohesive workspace.
Instructions
Sign in to Microsoft Loop
- Go to loop.microsoft.com
- Enter your login credentials (if required)
Edit Your Workspace
We can click anywhere on the page and start typing to add text.
Notice when we click on the page to start typing we get a floating toolbar
- Type /
- Select a piece of content/formatting to add to the page
- Type @
The @ symbol allows us to mention other people or files. Anyone we mention will receive a notification.
We can click on anything on the page and add a reaction, favorite it, or add a comment.
Loop Components
Anything we add to a page can be turned into a Loop component. Loop components are portable pieces of content that can be reused in other Microsoft 365 applications.
- Select a piece of content
- Click Create Loop component
The table is now a loop component.
- Click Copy component
- Click Copy again
We can then paste the component into other Microsoft 365 applications like Outlook or Teams.
- Go to Outlook and create a New Mail
- Press CTRL+V to paste
In Outlook we also have a Loop component button. We can create new loop components which feed back to the Microsoft Loop application.
- From Outlook, create a New Mail
- From the Message tab, click the Loop components button
- Select a loop component to create from the list
Any changes made to the Loop component by others synchronize across all places where the component exists.
Hints & tips
- To make workspaces easier to access, click the three dots and add to Favorites
- 00:04 Now, we're just going to stick with our brand guidelines page at the moment,
- 00:07 because I want to show you a couple of cool things you can do.
- 00:09 Now, obviously,
- 00:10 we can just start typing as it says there to add content to our page.
- 00:14 But check out what happens when I click.
- 00:16 It tells me / to insert, @ to find.
- 00:20 So if we press the /, and I get a whole bunch of stuff that I can add to my page.
- 00:25 So if I want to have a Heading 1, I can select that from the list.
- 00:28 It's the top one, so I'm just going to press Enter, and
- 00:31 now I get a Heading 1 style.
- 00:33 If I press/ again, maybe I want a Heading 2 in here, and now I have my Heading 2.
- 00:41 So we can add headings, but we can also add other things to our page,
- 00:45 such as tables, checklists, bulleted lists, numbered lists, and dividers.
- 00:50 So maybe I want a divider in here after my heading, and
- 00:53 then if I press / again, maybe I want a table.
- 00:56 So now I get this really cool little table.
- 00:58 We can add items to the table and press the Tab key to move to Column 2.
- 01:03 And if we want to add a new row to the table,
- 01:06 we can simply click New at the bottom.
- 01:08 Also notice just above, we can sort the table,
- 01:11 we can hide either of these columns, or we can expand the table out.
- 01:16 Let's press / again.
- 01:17 What else might we want to add?
- 01:19 We could add some checklist items.
- 01:21 And this is simply a case of typing in what you want.
- 01:26 Now, notice as I'm typing, we get two little speech bubbles down here.
- 01:30 Because this means that we can comment or we can send a reaction for
- 01:35 anything that we find on our pages.
- 01:38 Now, I wouldn't necessarily send a heart for something that I've typed, but
- 01:41 remember this is collaborative.
- 01:43 So it might be that I'm working in a page that somebody else on my team has created,
- 01:48 and I just want to let them know that I really like Item 3 in that checklist.
- 01:53 I could also add a quick little comment, like so,
- 01:57 to make this really collaborative.
- 02:00 Now the other thing we can do is add the @ symbol,
- 02:03 and this allows us to find and add other things into this page.
- 02:07 So I can add Adele as a mention on the page.
- 02:11 And Adele is then going to be notified that I've mentioned her.
- 02:15 I could even pull in documents that I have saved in OneDrive.
- 02:19 For example, I could pull in training information.
- 02:21 If I select that, we can then see that document just there.
- 02:25 And, of course, to open it,
- 02:26 we just simply need to click on the component that's been added.
- 02:30 Now, with any of these things that we've added to this particular page,
- 02:34 we could save those as Loop components.
- 02:36 For example, if I select the table by clicking on this little grid just here,
- 02:42 notice we have Create Loop Component.
- 02:44 And remember, Loop components are portable pieces of content.
- 02:48 So if I wanted to share this table in other Microsoft 365 applications,
- 02:53 I could create a Loop component, it's going to turn it into a component, and
- 02:58 I can then choose to copy that component, see who has access, or
- 03:02 take a look at the shared locations.
- 03:04 So if I click Copy Component, and then copy again,
- 03:08 I could open up a brand new Outlook mail, or maybe go to a Teams channel,
- 03:13 and simply paste in the link to that Loop component.
- 03:17 Now it's also worth noting, and this is true for the online version of Outlook and
- 03:22 also the desktop version,
- 03:23 we can create loop components from within our Outlook mail.
- 03:27 So if I just go down to the bottom here, notice on the Message tab,
- 03:31 I have a little Loop Components drop-down.
- 03:34 So I can choose to create a bulleted list, a checklist, a numbered list, a paragraph,
- 03:38 so on, and so forth.
- 03:39 So I'm going to go for task list.
- 03:42 Once again, it's going to create a brand new Loop component,
- 03:45 which is going to feed back to my Microsoft Loop.
- 03:47 And if I send this email to somebody with these two components contained, if they
- 03:52 make any changes to these components, which they can if I've given them access,
- 03:57 then I'm going to see those changes updated and reflected in Microsoft Loop.
- 04:02 So now if we go back to the home page of Loop,
- 04:04 you can see there is my marketing workspace.
- 04:07 I can click the three dots to open up the More menu.
- 04:09 And if this is a workspace I access all the time, I can add it to My Favorites so
- 04:14 that I now have it over here underneath the Favorites link.
- 04:18 A final couple of points to mention about Microsoft Loop before I let you go and
- 04:22 explore it yourself, notice that you can click the three dots from here and
- 04:26 delete specific pages.
- 04:27 And if you are the owner of the workspace, you can definitely come here and
- 04:32 also delete the entire workspace.
- 04:34 And if somebody @mentions you in a workspace or a page,
- 04:39 you can click on the bell icon at the top here to see any notifications.
