Radar Charts
Create and format a radar chart.
When to use
We create a radar chart whenever we want to display and compare multivariate data in a two-dimensional chart.
Instructions
A radar chart in Excel, also known as a spider chart or web chart, is a graphical method of displaying multivariate data in the form of a two-dimensional chart. It consists of a series of axes radiating from a central point, each representing one of the variables. Data points are plotted on each axis and connected to form a polygon, making it easy to compare multiple sets of values across several variables.
Key Aspects of Radar Charts:
- Axes: Each axis represents a different variable. All axes are equally spaced and extend from the center of the chart.
- Data Points: Data points are plotted on each axis and are connected to form a polygon.
- Comparison: Multiple data series can be plotted on the same chart for comparison.
Create a Radar Chart in Excel
In our example, we are comparing employee annual review scores for different disciplines.
- Highlight the data range you want to include in the radar chart.
- Go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon.
- From the Charts group, click on the diagonal arrow.
- Click on All Charts and Radar.
- Select the specific type of radar chart you want (e.g., Radar, Radar with Markers, Filled Radar).
Format the Chart
- Chart Title: Add a chart title by clicking on the chart title area.
- Axes and Labels: Modify the axes and labels as needed by right-clicking on the chart elements and selecting the appropriate options.
- Data Series: Customize the appearance of data series (e.g., colors, markers) by selecting the series and using the format options.
- Additional Elements: Add or remove gridlines, legends, and other chart elements as needed.
