Quick reference
Use Images in Charts
Create a chart that uses stacked or stretched images, icons, or shapes instead of bars to represent the values.
When to use
We use stacked or stretched images in an Excel chart when we want to enhance the visual appeal and clarity of the data being presented.
Instructions
Create a Stacked Image Chart
- Highlight the data range.
- Go to the Insert tab on the Ribbon.
- In the Charts group, select Insert Column or Bar Chart and choose Clustered Column.
Adjust the Gap Width
- Click on any column and press CTRL+1.
- In Series Options, adjust the Gap Width to make the columns wider.
Add an Image
- Click on the first column twice and press CTRL+1.
- Expand Fill and select Picture or texture fill.
- In Picture Source, click on Insert and choose From a File.
- Navigate to the folder where the image is saved.
- Click on the Image and click Insert.
The image will look a bit distorted.
- Click on the image and press CTRL+1.
- From Series Options, scroll down and choose Stack.
- Repeat this process for Orange and Banana using the corresponding images in the course files folder.
We can use any type of image including shapes, photos, icons, or symbols.
Using stacked images in Excel charts can make our data presentations more compelling, understandable, and visually appealing, helping us communicate your insights more effectively.
