Making a form into a self-correcting quiz
It is possible to set right and wrong answers with several question types in Google Forms.
When to use
Setting answers and entering feedback into forms allows forms to correct themselves and give automatic feedback to respondents.
Instructions
Make a form self-correcting
- Click “Settings”
- Click “Quizzes”
- Click “Make this a quiz”
- Quiz options:
- Release grades
- Immediately after each submission: Lets respondents see their right and wrong answers as soon as they submit the form
- Later, after manual review: Lets respondents see their right and wrong answers when the teacher decides (this requires respondents to log in before filling out the form)
- Release grades
- Respondent can see
- Missed questions: Lets respondents see their wrong answers
- Correct answers: Lets respondents see the answers they got right
- Point values: Lets respondents see how many points each question was worth
Setting answers to questions
NOTE: At the moment, only multiple choice questions, checkbox questions, and dropdown questions can accept right and wrong answers.
- Click on a question
- Click “Answer key”
- Click on an option to make it correct
Assigning point values to questions
- Click on a question
- Click “Answer key”
- Set how many points the question is worth in the top right, next to “Points”
Setting feedback for questions
- Click on a question
- Click “Answer key”
- Click “Add answer feedback”
- For multiple choice questions, checkbox questions, and dropdown questions:
- Incorrect answers: What the respondent sees if they get the question wrong
- Correct answers: What the respondent sees if they get the question right
NOTE: At the moment, only multiple choice questions, checkbox questions, and dropdown questions have options for right and wrong answer feedback.
Data validation for short answer and paragraph questions
- Click on a question
- Click the three dots
- “Data validation”
- Choose what type of information to accept
- Number: Only accept numbers
- Text: Only accept text
- Length: Only accept answers larger or smaller than a certain length
- Regular expression: Match answer to a regular expression
- Choose specific conditions (greater than, less than, contains, etc.)
- Enter custom error text - The error message the respondent will see when they enter an answer that isn’t accepted
Data validation for checkbox questions
- Click on a question
- Click the three dots
- “Data validation”
- Choose how many boxes respondents much select
