Overview and Pre-requisites

• 00:04 Hey guys, Eric Vasquez here and welcome to the Adobe Illustrator advanced course.
• 00:09 Now before we jump into it, I just wanted to take a couple of minutes to talk to you
• 00:12 guys about some of the prerequisites and
• 00:15 a little bit of an overview of what we're gonna cover in this course.
• 00:18 Now, before you jump right in to this, I would definitely recommend checking out my
• 00:22 Adobe Illustrator basics course if you are somebody who's new to Illustrator.
• 00:26 And the reason for that is because some of the techniques that we're going to be
• 00:29 covering in this more advanced course may be a little bit, too advanced for
• 00:34 some of you guys who aren't familiar with the interface and things like that.
• 00:38 But the course is really great, it's gonna take you guys through all of the ins and
• 00:41 outs, from the very first time that you start Adobe Illustrator.
• 00:45 Now, a lot of the stuff that I cover shows you guys how to use the presets,
• 00:48 the templates, the differences between RGB and CYMK, artboards and how to use them.
• 00:54 And then once you're actually inside of the Illustrator interface,
• 00:57 you guys will also know how to use all of the tools, menus and
• 01:01 panels that are available to you.
• 01:03 Now, why is this important?
• 01:04 Well, once we start working in the advanced course, I'm gonna be doing some
• 01:08 stuff that may seem a little unfamiliar to you if you don't have that foundation in
• 01:12 place first, and the last thing I wanna do is lose you guys while I'm working.
• 01:17 So, a lot of the tools that we'll be using will be things like the pen tool,
• 01:21 we'll be using the swatches palettes and the type tool and
• 01:24 doing some different stuff with outlines and things like that.
• 01:27 But it's gonna be a lot of fun and I'm really excited to share it with you guys.
• 01:30 And we're also going to be using some original sketches that I've created
• 01:34 just for this course, just for
• 01:35 you guys, so that we have a base and a starting point to use for our logo design.
• 01:40 So again, for those of you guys who have not used Illustrator before,
• 01:43 I would highly recommend doing the basics course prior to jumping into this
• 01:46 advanced tutorial.
• 01:48 Now, as I mentioned, we're gonna be using a sketch, and
• 01:51 we're gonna be using a pen tool to trace the sketch.
• 01:53 Before we do things like color it, we're gonna be merging shapes or
• 01:56 subtracting shapes using the pathfinder.
• 01:59 We'll be converting things to outlines and expanding these shapes.
• 02:02 And these are some of the terms and things like that that I would want you guys to be
• 02:06 familiar with so that you don't feel like you're lost or if I'm going too fast.
• 02:11 But I think that a lot of those questions that you guys might have
• 02:14 will be answered in the basics course.
• 02:17 So I just wanted to take a few moments to kind of talk about those prerequisites and
• 02:20 give you guys an overview so
• 02:22 that you know what you can expect from this Adobe Illustrator advanced course.
