A tip to learning more keyboard shortcuts:
- choose 2 or 3 new shortcuts to master
- for the next week, use those keyboard shortcuts as much as you can
- repeat this process week after week
- 00:04 Since you're using Apple's Keynote app, I know that you're using a Mac.
- 00:08 Whether you're new to the Mac, or
- 00:10 a seasoned user, I'm gonna bet that you will learn something new today that you
- 00:14 wish you had known since day one of using the Mac.
- 00:17 In this lesson, we're going to be talking about keyboard shortcuts.
- 00:22 If you're like many, you're probably rolling your eyes right now,
- 00:24 but hang in there.
- 00:26 I can promise that what you will learn in this lesson will save you time, and
- 00:30 help you become the envy of your peers as they watch how well you present and
- 00:34 navigate through your slides on the stage.
- 00:36 Hopefully by now we all know the more common keyboard shortcuts that work
- 00:40 throughout OS X.
- 00:43 Cmd + Z, Cmd + V, Cmd P etc.
- 00:44 There are many, many more where came from, here are some of my favorites.
- 00:51 If you wanna take a minute to study these keyboard shortcuts feel free to pause
- 00:54 the video and then resume it when you're ready to continue.
- 00:57 In addition to these system-wide keyboard shortcuts,
- 01:00 there are many more keyboard shortcuts that are specific to Keynote.
- 01:04 Here are some of my favorites.
- 01:06 The Escape key will prematurely end a slide show.
- 01:09 The B key will black the screen.
- 01:12 This is especially useful if you want to direct all the attention to you
- 01:15 as the presenter and not to the slides behind you.
- 01:18 The S key will show the current slide number.
- 01:21 There are many, many more where these came from.
- 01:24 For a full listing of available keyboard shortcuts,
- 01:28 let's go to Help and Keyboard Shortcuts.
- 01:31 The first thing we see here is a listing of the keyboard modifier keys.
- 01:34 these include Cmd+Shift, Option+Ctrl, and Function.
- 01:39 It's important to know which is which as you become
- 01:42 more familiar with the keyboard shortcuts because many times these modifiers
- 01:46 are identified by their symbols and not the full name.
- 01:50 When you're ready to move on, let's click on the link above the list of modifiers to
- 01:53 reveal the full list of keynote specific keyboard shortcuts.
- 01:59 There are way too many to go through in detail here, so
- 02:02 I will leave it to you to become better acquainted with them.
- 02:05 A tip that may help you is this, each week, choose two or three new keyboard
- 02:09 shortcuts that you want to master, then use them constantly throughout the week.
- 02:14 At the end of the week, you will use them like second nature.
- 02:17 The next week, choose two or three new shortcuts to master.
- 02:21 After a month or so,
- 02:22 you'll become the envy of your peers as you navigate your slide deck on the stage
- 02:26 in front of your audience who will simply be amazed at your presentation skills.
