The Forms Start Page
Get familiar with the layout and buttons on the Microsoft Forms start page.
When to use
It's always beneficial to get comfortable with the layout of the Microsoft Forms start page prior to creating a new form, quiz, or survey.
Instructions
- Launch Microsoft Forms.
The top half of the start page is where we can access recent forms, pinned forms, and forms shared with us by others. We can also create new forms, quizzes, and surveys from here.
Use the search bar at the top of the page to search for forms and type keywords into the filter field on the right to refine a list of forms.
The lower half of the page is where we go to create team forms based on an existing Microsoft 365 group.
We can also click the All My Forms link to see form templates and import form data from other applications like Word and Excel.
Hints & tips
- Clicking All My Forms will take us to the same page that we see when we access forms using a personal account.
- 00:03 Before we dive in and start creating forms, surveys, quizzes,
- 00:07 all of that good stuff, it's always helpful to make sure that we are familiar
- 00:12 with the Forms start page, the Forms interface first of all.
- 00:16 So when you log into Forms, this is the page that you're going to see.
- 00:20 And the interface currently is fairly simple.
- 00:23 If we take a look at the top, you can see that we have a Search bar.
- 00:27 I'm sure you can imagine what we're going to use that for a bit later on.
- 00:30 This is where you can go in and search for specific forms.
- 00:34 We then have a New Form button on the left-hand side.
- 00:37 Now notice with this button, it has a dropdown, and
- 00:40 when we see a dropdown, it always means there are more options lurking underneath.
- 00:45 And you can see here we have another option and that is New Quiz.
- 00:48 Now I'm going to go into a bit more detail in the next lesson about the difference
- 00:53 between a form, a quiz, and a survey.
- 00:55 But just for now, know that that is where you can come to create a brand-new form or
- 00:59 a new quiz.
- 01:00 Underneath that we have three different sections, Recent, Pinned, and Shared with
- 01:05 me, and this works very similar to any other Microsoft 365 application.
- 01:09 Now because we haven't created any forms yet,
- 01:11 that's why I'm not seeing anything listed underneath.
- 01:14 But as soon as you start working with the application, you'll see under here forms
- 01:18 that you've accessed recently, any forms that you've pinned.
- 01:22 And again, we will do that a bit later on, and
- 01:25 any forms that somebody else has shared with you.
- 01:28 So this is really just a quick way to access recently used forms.
- 01:32 All the way over on the right-hand side, we have a filter list.
- 01:35 So as you start creating more and more forms,
- 01:38 we might have hundreds of forms in here.
- 01:41 So it's good to be able to use a filter to find exactly the form that we're
- 01:45 looking for.
- 01:46 And then right at the bottom, we have this My groups section.
- 01:50 Now what you'll see down here, and just bear in mind that yours will differ to
- 01:53 what I'm seeing, any groups that you're a member of.
- 01:56 So that might be a Microsoft 365 group,
- 02:00 it might be team in Teams, it might even be a SharePoint site.
- 02:04 Because what we can do within Microsoft Forms is create forms for
- 02:08 specific groups, and again, we will be doing that a bit later on.
- 02:13 And the final thing to mention on this start page is this All My Forms link.
- 02:17 Now, when we click on this link, this page should look familiar.
- 02:22 Let's click on it.
- 02:23 Would you take a look at that, it takes us to the start page that we saw when
- 02:28 we logged in using forms.microsoft.com using our personal account.
- 02:33 So we can still get to this page even if we're logged in as a business account.
- 02:38 And in here we do have a few more options, the layout is slightly different.
- 02:42 We have New Form, New Quiz, but
- 02:44 we also have a Quick Import button at the top here.
- 02:47 So this is really cool, it's going to allow us to basically create a quiz or
- 02:52 a form in another application and then import it into Forms.
- 02:55 Underneath that, we have a selection of templates that we can use for our form.
- 02:59 And if we click the View all link, we're going to see the full template gallery.
- 03:04 Remember, when you're working in Microsoft 365,
- 03:07 if you need to go back a screen, just look for the back arrow.
- 03:10 And then underneath that, again, we just have some more filters.
- 03:13 So we have Recent, My forms, which will show any forms that you've created.
- 03:17 You can see I've created quite a few.
- 03:19 Some of these are just untitled, they were test forms that I was working on.
- 03:23 We can take a look at any filled out forms.
- 03:26 Again, forms that have been shared with us.
- 03:28 And then we can view any forms that we've added into our favorites list.
- 03:32 And all of these areas are going to become more populated as we work through
- 03:36 the balance of this course.
- 03:38 But that is a quick run through of the interface and
- 03:40 what you can see when you're on the start page.
- 03:43 It's now time to dive in and start creating forms, quizzes, and surveys.
