Customize the Quick Access Toolbar
This lesson will show you several ways to add or delete icons from the Quick Access Toolbar.
When to use
By adding icons to the Quick Access Toolbar, those icons will always be available to you.
Instructions
- Open the OneNote program.
- Move your mouse to the very top of the window on the top. You should see some icons there. That is the Quick Access Toolbar.
- Click on the arrow to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar.
- Click on one the icons on that list to add them onto the Quick Access Toolbar.
- Right click on any icon on the Ribbon, then click on Add to Quick Access Toolbar.
- To remove an icon from the Quick Access Toolbar, right click on the icon on the Quick Access Toolbar, and then click on Remove from Quick Access Toolbar.
Hints & tips
- You can click on the File Menu, and then Options, and then Quick Access Toolbar to see many more icons you can add to it.
- 00:05 Notice when you're in OneNote, up here you have your Quick Access Toolbar.
- 00:10 So let me show you a couple ways to add things to the Quick Access Toolbar or
- 00:14 even to take icons away.
- 00:15 The Quick Access Toolbar always stays on the top of the window so
- 00:19 you can put your favorite icons up there.
- 00:21 So one thing you can do is you can click on that arrow to the right of
- 00:24 the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 00:26 And then you can just pick any one of those.
- 00:28 So if I pick on Print Preview, now that's on the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 00:33 So that was really quick and easy.
- 00:34 I can just click on the arrow and then I can just pick any one of those.
- 00:39 I'll pick on Forward, for example, and
- 00:41 now the forward icon is on the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 00:45 Another thing that you can do is you can right click on any of your icons.
- 00:48 So I'm going to right click on Bold, and we'll say add to Quick Access Toolbar.
- 00:53 And now that one is up there.
- 00:54 Or right click in Italics, and I'll say add to Quick Access Toolbar.
- 00:59 If you want to remove something from the Quick Access Toolbar,
- 01:02 then you come up to the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 01:04 And you right click on that icon that you want to remove and
- 01:07 I'll say remove from the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 01:10 Good, now sometimes the Quick Access Toolbar shows up below the ribbon.
- 01:15 Let me show you how you can make that happen.
- 01:17 If I click on the arrow, I can say show below the ribbon.
- 01:24 And then notice the Quick Access Toolbar is here.
- 01:27 Now I really prefer it on the top of the window.
- 01:30 So if it's here and you want to move it back to the top, I'll click on that arrow
- 01:34 to the right of the Quick Access Toolbar, and I'll say show above the ribbon.
- 01:39 And now it's back.
- 01:41 That's the way I like it.
- 01:42 Okay, so,
- 01:42 let me show you another way you can add things to the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 01:47 If I pick on the File menu, File, then we'll pick an Options, file options.
- 01:54 Good, so, notice over here, it says Quick Access Toolbar.
- 01:59 And then from here you can add any of these into the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 02:04 So this gives you a bigger list.
- 02:06 So for example, let's say if undo is there, I want to add redo in there.
- 02:11 So pick on Redo and pick on Add.
- 02:14 And now that's part of the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 02:16 So the way I got here was I picked in the File menu and then Options and
- 02:20 I picked on Quick Access Toolbar.
- 02:22 Then you can just pick any one of those on the left, and then pick on the word add.
- 02:27 So that's now on the right hand side,
- 02:28 which means it's in the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 02:32 Even on this screen, here's how you can get a much bigger list of things you can
- 02:35 add to your Quick Access Toolbar.
- 02:38 I'm going to click on the pulldown where it says popular commands.
- 02:40 And then I can say All commands, and then you get a complete list
- 02:45 of everything that can be added to the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 02:49 So for example, I'll pick on the Eraser.
- 02:55 Just as an example, I'll scroll down and pick on eraser.
- 03:02 And then I'll pick on add.
- 03:03 And now you can see how that's on the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 03:07 When you're done with this window, I'll click on OK.
- 03:09 And now notice how the Quick Access Toolbar has the icons that we've added
- 03:13 in there.
- 03:15 So you can either click on this arrow and add those in.
- 03:19 I can right click on an icon and then say Add to Quick Access Toolbar there.
- 03:24 We can pick on File and then Options and
- 03:26 then pick on the Quick Access Toolbar there.
- 03:30 And even here I can add icons or remove icons as you can see in this window.
- 03:35 And when we're done with that we'll pick on Cancel or OK.
- 03:39 And then another way to remove something from the Quick Access Toolbar is to right
- 03:43 click on the icon that you want to remove.
- 03:45 And then you say remove it from the Quick Access Toolbar.
- 03:48 So now you have several ways to manage your Quick Access Toolbar.
