Quick reference
Use the OneNote To Do Tag
This lesson will show how to create a quick To do list in OneNote using the To Do tag.
When to use
There are times when you want to create a workable to-do list, and this gives you a quick way to do that.
Instructions
- Go into the OneNote program
- Go into the Quick Notes notebook
- Click on the new page icon on the right
- Click anywhere on the page, and start typing in a few items - press the return key after each one
- Highlight your list
- Click on the Home Menu
- Click on the To Do Tag
- Notice how the list now has the check boxes to the left
- You can actually check something as you complete those tasks
Hints & tips
- On the Home Menu, you can click on Find Tags to help you locate the To do tags and other tags that are part of the Notebook
- 00:05 So now, I want to show you how to use the To Do tag or
- 00:09 other types of tags here in OneNote.
- 00:12 So, we made that To Do List in a previous lesson.
- 00:15 So now what if I really want to make them go towards a real To Do List.
- 00:21 So I'm going to go ahead and highlight those items in the To Do List.
- 00:26 I can just have one or more than one.
- 00:28 And then notice up on the Home menu,
- 00:31 you have your tags over here, and the To Do tag.
- 00:34 Now there's lots of other types of tags.
- 00:38 You can try some of those different ones.
- 00:40 Maybe you can mark something critical or different projects there.
- 00:43 Here you can customize the tags and make up your own tags and so on.
- 00:47 But I'm going to pick on To Do here or To Do here.
- 00:51 It's really the same thing.
- 00:54 Now notice how it actually has a checkbox next to this.
- 00:57 So then I can actually mark something as complete or as not complete.
- 01:03 So we were able to add the tag here.
- 01:07 And again, if you notice where my mouse is,
- 01:09 notice how there's many different types of tags.
- 01:11 Once you have those tags, then you can search for the tagged items.
- 01:16 So I'm going to come up here on the home menu.
- 01:19 And I will pick on on Find Tags.
- 01:21 So once you tag them, you can search on those tagged items.
- 01:25 So I pick on Find Tags and then you get this window over here.
- 01:29 And then it actually came up with that list.
- 01:32 So, in this case, if I just want to show the ones that
- 01:37 are unchecked, I can click in that box there.
- 01:41 In this case, I'll pick on refresh, and then we see the ones that come up.
- 01:46 So if I check this one, that means it's complete,
- 01:50 then I'm going to make sure that this is checked where it says
- 01:53 show only unchecked items, then I'll pick on refresh again.
- 01:58 And now notice how the one that says Analyze the Information is no longer on that
- 02:03 list because it's checked, okay?
- 02:05 So I showed you how to apply the tags.
- 02:09 If you look at this list, there's many other tags that you can use.
- 02:13 Just to make things stand out in different ways, here I can customize the tags.
- 02:18 I can remove them.
- 02:20 Here's the To Do flag built right in because that's one that's very popular.
- 02:25 And then once we add the tags, then I picked on Find Tags to open this window.
- 02:32 And then from here I can search on them.
- 02:34 And then, it did find the ones that I had made.
- 02:38 And then here, I can say show only unchecked items and
- 02:41 then you can see that worked as well.
- 02:43 By the way, when you search for the tags, you can search for this workbook,
- 02:48 or different items here, just this page group, this section, this section group,
- 02:53 this notebook, all notebooks that are out there and so on, okay?
- 02:57 So you can limit the search in that way.
- 02:59 If you change anything up here, make sure you pick on refresh so
- 03:04 that you'll get the newest list of your tags.
