- 00:03 Let's talk about how the spell checker works here in OneNote.
- 00:08 So I'm still in the quick notes, as you can see, and I'll make another page.
- 00:14 In this case, I'll call the page Spell Check.
- 00:20 All right, so I'm just going to start to type in here.
- 00:24 Now sometimes it doesn't recognize my name, so I'll type in my name here and
- 00:28 see if that comes up.
- 00:31 No, it found my name.
- 00:32 So let's say I'm going to misspell a word on purpose,
- 00:38 I'll type in T-H-I-E-R.
- 00:42 Okay, good.
- 00:43 So anything that's going to be underlined in red means it's a word that's
- 00:47 either misspelled or maybe it's a proper noun that it doesn't recognize.
- 00:52 So I'll say 'Thier'. I'm going to misspell the word tables,
- 01:01 Are over there.
- 01:06 So I'm purposely trying to make some misspelled words.
- 01:09 Then also another thing that spell checker is going to check is grammar.
- 01:14 So this time I'll say, Please go get the tables.
- 01:22 I'm going to misspell tables again.
- 01:24 Now I'm going to put two spaces between those words and
- 01:28 let's see the flags that one.
- 01:31 Sometimes in Word or PowerPoint if you have two spaces between the words
- 01:36 it'll flag that as a grammar error.
- 01:39 If you ever see anything underlined in blue here,
- 01:42 then it will be a grammar error.
- 01:45 So here's a couple ways I can do the spellcheck.
- 01:49 I can right click on those words that are underlined in red, and
- 01:53 then it'll do the spell checking for that one word.
- 01:57 So that one should be the word 'Their' spelled that way, right, and
- 02:00 then it fixed that.
- 02:02 So when you see the red underscore,
- 02:05 then you can either right click on that word and do it individually or
- 02:10 you can do the spell checker in the traditional way.
- 02:14 So what I'll do is I'll pick on the Review menu of top, Review, and
- 02:18 then we see Spelling.
- 02:20 So it's in the same location it will be for Word or PowerPoint.
- 02:24 I'll pick on spelling like that.
- 02:26 Now when we do it this way, it'll do the entire document, okay.
- 02:30 So notice how it's on the word tables, and then it'll give me a suggestion there.
- 02:36 So I'll just pick on the word tables and it'll correct that, and
- 02:38 they'll pick on the word tables for this one as well.
- 02:43 Let's try another example of the spell checker because sometimes it's not just
- 02:47 misspelled words, it might also be proper nouns that it doesn't recognize.
- 02:52 So I'm going to type in something like Dr. Fauci,
- 02:59 Is very intelligent.
- 03:07 Now, I did spell his name correctly, but
- 03:11 because that's a proper noun maybe it doesn't really recognize that name.
- 03:17 Or maybe it's a term of jargon that it might not recognize as well.
- 03:22 So I can either right click on that word and do it individually, or
- 03:26 I can pick on the spelling choice under the Review menu.
- 03:30 I'll just do that one individually.
- 03:31 So I'm going to right click where it says Fauci, and
- 03:34 then it'll give you some suggestions.
- 03:37 Or in this case, I want to add that to the dictionary.
- 03:41 And what's interesting is OneNote uses the same dictionary that Word uses and
- 03:47 PowerPoint and also Outlook and Excel.
- 03:50 So once I've added it to the dictionary in any of those programs,
- 03:54 then OneNote will be able to see those words.
- 03:56 And even if I add it here, then the other programs will see those words as well.
- 04:01 So now anytime I use the word Fauci in the future, either in Word,
- 04:06 PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, or OneNote, it'll recognize that word.
- 04:11 So when I see that word that's underlined in red,
- 04:16 then I can do the spell checker for
- 04:19 that individual word just by right clicking on it.
- 04:25 Sometimes you would add it to the dictionary if that's the proper name.
- 04:29 Sometimes they'll give you some suggestions like in this case.
- 04:33 And then to do the entire page,
- 04:35 then you would pick on the Review menu and pick on Spelling there.
- 04:40 And then that's how you can use your spell checker here in OneNote.
