- 00:04 I know you want to jump right in and start designing your first publication, but
- 00:09 we need to do a little bit of background first before we jump in too far,
- 00:12 all right?
- 00:13 So come on up to the File ribbon up here at the top, and
- 00:17 notice it defaults to the info and we have the Info section.
- 00:20 There's four places you need to know about and one of them is a homework assignment.
- 00:24 And that's the first one.
- 00:25 That Edit Business Information, I'll go ahead and
- 00:28 click that button so you can see that everything in here can be changed.
- 00:32 All these text boxes can be edited.
- 00:34 You can put in all your company information,
- 00:36 your company contact information, your tagline, your motto, you can hit Add Logo.
- 00:41 And it'll take you to your Pictures section where you can find the logo
- 00:44 you'd like to use.
- 00:46 And then of course, you can name this Business Information set name Custom 1.
- 00:49 Maybe you are a graphics designer, and you're doing work for multiple clients.
- 00:53 Well, each client can have their business information
- 00:56 set up prior to doing all the work.
- 00:58 You see, what we're trying to prevent here is a serious typo at
- 01:02 a later date when you're on a deadline.
- 01:05 So if you do your homework ahead of time, get that set up, everybody's happy.
- 01:09 I'll go ahead and click Cancel on this.
- 01:11 The next section is straight across to the right from there.
- 01:14 It is Publication Properties.
- 01:16 Now these properties are actually changeable properties.
- 01:19 When we hit the drop down, we have the option to go to Advanced Properties and
- 01:23 in this little text box you can retype the title.
- 01:27 Give it a subject, change the author name.
- 01:29 Now that author name travels with the document for its eternity, so
- 01:33 you want to be sure the correct author name is on there, manager, company.
- 01:36 Notice we have all these other items back here like Statistics for instance.
- 01:41 You don't have text boxes here because these are actually created by the computer
- 01:45 and recorded.
- 01:46 But if you do see a text box, that is something that you can fill in.
- 01:49 If there is no text box, you've just got to walk away from it.
- 01:52 All right, I'll hit Cancel on that.
- 01:54 Down below we have the Run Design Checker.
- 01:56 This is like your on-board administrator checking every little detail for you.
- 02:01 When you click that button, it takes you back to the document.
- 02:03 And over on the right-hand side, it says Design Checker.
- 02:07 Right down here, it has found space below.
- 02:10 Page has space below to margin, okay, fine.
- 02:12 So you can go ahead and go to this item, never run this check,
- 02:15 explain what's going on.
- 02:17 You do have the option to just have the entire document checked for you, and
- 02:21 I use this all the time.
- 02:23 Why not just have a second set of eyes on your publication before you send it out,
- 02:27 it's a good idea.
- 02:29 Another good idea is to always close these panels when you're done with them to keep
- 02:32 your screen clean and usable.
- 02:34 I'll go ahead and close that.
- 02:35 Let's go back down to File.
- 02:38 We default to Info, so
- 02:39 we've looked at Edit Business Information, Publication Properties, Design Checker,
- 02:44 and right below we have Embedded Font Information.
- 02:47 You're not stuck with just the fonts the publisher gives you.
- 02:50 You can actually download other fonts from the Internet.
- 02:52 Some companies have created fonts for their companies, and
- 02:55 they'd like you to download and use those as well.
- 02:58 This is where you would do that.
- 02:59 And this is where you would manage those.
- 03:01 I'll go ahead and click OK.
- 03:03 Although it's rare that happens, it all depends on your client and
- 03:05 what's happening.
- 03:06 All right, now that you've got your homework assignment,
- 03:09 the Edit Business Information, go ahead and
- 03:10 get started on that then move on to the next video.
- 03:13 And then pretty soon we'll start on that first publication.
