Apply Image and Background Color
Make your publication’s front page look like a magazine cover; simply click any picture and click “Apply Image”:
Before: After:
Maybe you would prefer to simply change the “fill color” rather than the background picture? Use the “Background” color button:
Before: After:
- 00:04 All right continuing on from the previous video, let's continue with the page design
- 00:09 ribbon, I'm still in my trader news newsletter.
- 00:11 I'm gonna focus on pages.
- 00:13 Now if you'll notice on my left hand panel, I'm doing my navigation pane.
- 00:17 And when I flip my mouse over these it says page 1, page 2 and 3, and page 4.
- 00:21 Now when I click Delete,
- 00:22 I can actually delete one of these pages which I'm not going to do.
- 00:26 I'm going to hit Cancel right now.
- 00:27 But that's the fastest way to use last month's newsletter and
- 00:31 just make a couple changes.
- 00:33 All right, I can move a page.
- 00:35 So I'm gonna go ahead and click move Page 1 after page 2.
- 00:39 Now go ahead and hit OK, and watch what happens on the left hand side.
- 00:43 They just rearranged and notice my page, my trader news,
- 00:47 is right here, my title moved to page 2 that quickly.
- 00:50 Now I wanna move it back since I just made that change.
- 00:53 Ctrl+Z will put it right back and you'll see it come up right here on the screen.
- 00:58 Okay, and maybe I wanna rename these.
- 01:01 It's always a good idea to actually name your pages.
- 01:03 I know page 1, 2, 3, 4, is self explanatory, but
- 01:06 what if this is a 20 page newsletter and I need to know which one is the coupon page,
- 01:11 which one is the sign up page?
- 01:13 So you can actually rename these.
- 01:14 I'll go ahead and click on Rename.
- 01:16 And I'll type Title Page right here.
- 01:18 And when I hit OK.
- 01:20 Now when flip my mouse over page 1, it now says Title Page.
- 01:23 A great way to keep track of which pages are on your screen.
- 01:27 Now I wanna show you one other trick.
- 01:30 I know that Page Design and the pages are right here but
- 01:32 when I hit a right-mouse over here, I have these same options.
- 01:36 Delete, Move, Rename.
- 01:38 Now a trick about the right-mouse is any time there's a little icon showing on
- 01:42 the left, there's a matching icon somewhere on a ribbon up above.
- 01:46 So if you notice, these three icons happen to be matching right here.
- 01:49 These three icons.
- 01:51 We have more as well.
- 01:52 Page numbers?
- 01:53 I can actually put page numbers on my pages right here, instead of having to go
- 01:57 to Master Pages way over here on the end and doing page numbers.
- 02:01 I can do it right here.
- 02:02 I can also open up master pages and actually work in here on my headers and
- 02:07 footers as well.
- 02:08 Now there was a whole video lesson about headers and footers,
- 02:11 I'd encourage you to watch that cuz that's where we talked a lot about master pages.
- 02:14 I do wanna see, you to see what happens when I turn off.
- 02:17 View 2 page spread,
- 02:18 you're gonna see the results on my navigation pane right here on the left.
- 02:22 Turn that off, now they all went to single pages.
- 02:26 I can't tell which pages are facing each other.
- 02:29 Okay, so I personally prefer my view 2 page spread because it shows me page 2 and
- 02:35 3 are called facing pages.
- 02:37 They would actually open up and mirror each other.
- 02:40 So I do like that feature, I always leave that one on.
- 02:43 All right one other thing I wanna show you in here is on this particular screen,
- 02:48 I wanna make an image the entire background.
- 02:52 Now I'm gonna click, I'm on my title page, I'm gonna click on this particular image
- 02:56 and notice this apply image button just popped up.
- 02:59 Well it was grayed out and now It's all colored, so now I can use it.
- 03:03 Now this is gonna tell me to fill the entire background with
- 03:07 the picture or tile it.
- 03:08 I'm gonna fill the entire background.
- 03:10 Now you can't really see it on this screen but
- 03:12 look what happened over here on page 1 of my page navigation.
- 03:15 This now resembles maybe the cover page of a magazine.
- 03:21 Let me zoom in.
- 03:22 Doesn't that look nice?
- 03:24 All because I happened to click on this particular picture and
- 03:27 I filled the background with it.
- 03:28 So that is a great idea if you want a full color layout.
- 03:33 Now Ctrl+Z of course will take that away.
- 03:35 Another thing you can do here is the background.
- 03:37 I can actually choose a background color.
- 03:40 And it already matches the theme, the color theme.
- 03:43 Or, if I Ctrl+Z that, I can actually change the entire color theme of this
- 03:48 entire newsletter by simply clicking on here.
- 03:50 I'll make it something, here, we'll go with this opulent, very maroon colors.
- 03:54 Now again, take a look at that left hand navigation panel and I choose opulent and
- 03:59 watch what happens, the entire thing just recolored itself even the text if you look
- 04:03 at my front screen right here, even the text auto colored itself.
- 04:07 So it's that fast to make these changes, you don't have to do a lot of work.
- 04:10 Simply go to your page design ribbon and run through the tools and
- 04:14 see what happens.
- 04:15 It's pretty awesome, thank you.
