Quick reference
Instructions
To link to another Visio diagram:
- Click on a shape, then click on Insert, then click on Link.
- On the next window, click on the Browse button to the right of the word Address, then select the other Visio diagram that you want to link to.
To activate the link:
- Move your mouse to the shape with the link, and then hold down the CTRL key, and then click on the shape. You will then be taken to the other diagram.
- 00:04 Let's see how we can link one Visio diagram to another.
- 00:07 We're in this diagram, and I'm going to add a rectangle shape.
- 00:13 So I'll pick on the Home menu and pick on the rectangle shape, and
- 00:16 then I'm just going to drag that and make a rectangle over here.
- 00:21 I'm just going to say, Click here,
- 00:27 To go to the room layout.
- 00:36 All right, so we added some text into that shape, of course.
- 00:40 I'll just click on the Pointer Tool, and
- 00:42 then we can see that text is within that shape.
- 00:45 We're going to add a hyperlink.
- 00:47 Now you can add a hyperlink to any shape, all right, so
- 00:49 we're going to click on that shape.
- 00:52 Then we'll pick on the Insert menu, and we say Link.
- 00:57 Now, the link can either be to a website or it could be to a file.
- 01:03 The only one you really need to worry about is the address.
- 01:05 So I'm going to click on the space for the address and I'll pick on Browse.
- 01:09 Notice how you can go to a website, or in this case,
- 01:13 we're going to go to a local file and then you'll pick a file from your computer.
- 01:19 So I'm going to pick on the other file that comes with this lesson,
- 01:25 which is really this one.
- 01:27 So I'll pick on Open.
- 01:30 Now, I'll pick on Okay.
- 01:31 Now I just clicked over here on to another shape,
- 01:37 watch as I move my mouse near that shape or onto that shape.
- 01:42 Then you see the little link on the mouse and it says actually Ctrl+Click.
- 01:47 So I'll do Ctrl+Click and
- 01:50 that's going to activate the link, now I'm in the other diagram.
- 01:54 So in this diagram, I want to have a way to go back to the other one, so
- 01:58 I'm going to add another link onto here.
- 02:00 I'll pick on the Home menu and we'll use the rectangle,
- 02:06 and I'll say, click here to return to flowchart.
- 02:13 And then we'll just go back to the Pointer Tool.
- 02:16 Now again, I'm going to pick on Insert and
- 02:19 then Link, we'll pick on Browse next to the word Address.
- 02:24 It could be an Internet address or it could be a local file.
- 02:27 So I'll go back to local file, and I'll pick on the other diagram
- 02:32 that comes with this particular lesson, which was called Before 4.6.
- 02:38 And I'll pick on Open, now I'll pick on Okay.
- 02:43 Now as I move my mouse towards that shape, it says Ctrl+Click will activate the link.
- 02:48 So I'll do Ctrl+Click, and now we're back on to the other one.
- 02:52 So you can see by adding those links in,
- 02:56 then you can link to actually a website or another Visio file.
