When to use
Word Art is a fun and creative way to place a banner across a flyer and many other uses. You can invent “rubber stamps” electronically and stamp an invoice.
Instructions
To begin, select the text: Notice to All Employees!
- Click Insert
and click the Word Art button:
- Choose from the gallery to begin a design.
- The Drawing Tools ribbon
opens at the top of your screen.
- Use the tools in the Word Art Styles group to change your design:
- Use the Text Effects, Transform button to apply curves to your design
- 00:04 Hello, this lesson is about Word Art which is fun and creative to work with, so
- 00:09 if you're a designer type of person you're going to love this.
- 00:13 And there's also a professional reason to use it.
- 00:16 First of all, I'd like to put a banner, a creative banner across the top of a flyer.
- 00:20 So go ahead and highlight the text on your screen, Notice to All Employees, and
- 00:24 lets go ahead and find the Word Art.
- 00:26 Click on the insert ribbon,
- 00:27 and way over here on the far right is a little tiny A tipped on it's side.
- 00:32 Just looks a little crazy and wacky, and that is Word Art.
- 00:35 So go ahead and click on one of them, or click on that button, and go ahead and
- 00:39 choose any one of them in that gallery.
- 00:41 Now that you've chosen it and applied it, notice that it's wrapped in a box.
- 00:45 That box has handles.
- 00:46 And you can resize that box so the Notice to All Employees will word wrap within it.
- 00:53 You can use the little curvy button at the top to tilt that box if you'd like.
- 00:57 But more importantly you have a brand new ribbon, the drawing tools ribbon.
- 01:01 Now up here you have gallery where you can change your mind and choose a different
- 01:06 design if you'd like, and you have all kinds of buttons that can apply to this.
- 01:12 The shape fill, which will fill the background of that little box.
- 01:17 And the shape outline, which will actually color the frame around the box, and
- 01:22 then we have the shape effects.
- 01:24 The shape effects will apply certain little fun features to
- 01:28 the fonts themselves, although it's kind of hard to see in this case.
- 01:32 I think I'd rather use a text effects over here, so let's move over here to this one.
- 01:36 The text effects allows you to change the color inside,
- 01:40 the actual text color inside its outline.
- 01:44 And then the next one is the outline.
- 01:47 And then this last one, this is a text effects button.
- 01:51 So you can put shadows on here.
- 01:53 It's hard to actually see them.
- 01:54 And then the reflection, you can add a little reflection of your choice.
- 02:00 You can put a glow in the background of it, a bevel, which looks really cool.
- 02:07 Let's see, my mouse quite moving, here we go, you can bevel those.
- 02:11 The 3D rotation, but honestly the transform.
- 02:13 The transform is a great feature because now you can make the text actually wrap
- 02:19 and curve at the top, or curve at the bottom, or go in a circle.
- 02:23 It's amazing what will happen here.
- 02:26 And so I just like to make you aware of all these things,
- 02:29 you are limited only to your own imagination.
- 02:33 So I'm gonna go ahead and choose that particular one.
- 02:35 And now, let's go ahead and apply this on a professional level.
- 02:38 I'm gonna scroll down just to show you that this is just a kinda clipart
- 02:42 of a paid in full rubber stamp.
- 02:44 And accounts receivable usually stamps paid in full on the invoices as they're
- 02:48 paid, well what if you want to do that same thing to and electronic invoice.
- 02:53 All you have to do is create a paid in full rubber stamp look.
- 02:57 So I'm gonna scroll down,
- 02:58 and I'm gonna type paid in full, I'm going to highlight the text.
- 03:03 Go back to my insert.
- 03:05 Find my little tipped A on the side, my Word Art.
- 03:09 Go ahead and choose any one of them I want.
- 03:11 Go to the gallery, I can change it if I want.
- 03:14 I can change the color.
- 03:17 Let's see, I think that's my inside color.
- 03:19 I want red, of course.
- 03:21 I want it to be a red paid in full.
- 03:23 I can change the frame, I can change everything.
- 03:25 And then all I have to do is click and drag and
- 03:27 place it over the top of the invoice, where I want.
- 03:30 As soon as I say that, now when I email that to client,
- 03:34 they have an invoice stamped with Paid in Full.
- 03:37 I didn't need the old-fashioned rubber stamp after all.
- 03:40 So it's a great feature.
- 03:42 It's a great way to apply it professionally on top of an invoice.
- 03:46 And it's just great fun to work with.
- 03:48 I hope you play around with it and have fun with it.
