- 00:04 So let's go ahead and create some bling in Photoshop.
- 00:07 Well, it's probably not exactly what you would consider ‘bling’, but it'll make for
- 00:10 a catchy title.
- 00:11 Let's start nice and simple. Grab your Type tool,
- 00:14 and spell out a nice large word, preferably using a thicker font.
- 00:18 For this example, I'm using ‘hobo’. The color really doesn't matter at this
- 00:23 point, as we're going to be covering it up anyway.
- 00:24 Our effect is going to be primarily made of layer styles.
- 00:28 This way, you can easily change the text later on and keep the fancy effects.
- 00:32 Let's start off with a gradient overlay. Double click on your layer
- 00:36 and choose gradient overlay from the left. For the colors,
- 00:40 the left is going to be a nice bright yellow - I'll enter the value ff e8 98.
- 00:43 And on the right side,
- 00:47 I'll choose a nice caramel color - I will use d1 8f 0f.
- 00:51 If you want, you can pop in the exact values that I'm entering here,
- 00:56 but you're free to experiment with different colors. Once your colors are
- 00:59 set,
- 01:00 change the style to ‘reflected’. That'll do it for the gradient: nice and simple.
- 01:03 Next, let's make our text pop with the bevel and emboss.
- 01:06 Now, this is where most tutorials take a turn for the
- 01:11 worst.
- 01:11 Bevels can turn out quite nice if you spend the time tweaking the settings.
- 01:15 Otherwise, you end up with a design that looks like it came from the 1990’s.
- 01:19 We're going to keep the style at inner bevel, increase the depth to
- 01:23 around 180 and the size to 7.
- 01:24 You don't want to go too high, or you will get a pretty ugly result.
- 01:29 Also, remember that, depending on the size and thickness of your font,
- 01:32 you most likely need to adjust the settings accordingly.
- 01:36 Popping below into shading,
- 01:37 let's change the angle to 45 and the altitude to 40 degrees.
- 01:40 Then go ahead and change the shadow mode to linear burn,
- 01:45 and decrease the opacity to around 60%. This will give the shadow a
- 01:49 slight orange feel to it.
- 01:50 So far, it's not looking too special:
- 01:53 are you ready for the magic? Click on the current contour and
- 01:57 change it to ‘ring double’. That's looking a lot better.
- 02:02 If you like, you can also add a slight texture as well.
- 02:05 I found that the satin texture, which is right here, with the 110 scale
- 02:10 in a 2% depth gives a nice subtle texture to the gold.
- 02:13 And finally, let's add a slight outer glow
- 02:17 to give a shimmering feel to the gold. Change the blend mode to linear dodge,
- 02:22 opacity to 50, and then choose a nice
- 02:25 orange color - I'll use fd ca 66
- 02:29 Down below, set the size to 25
- 02:32 and crank the range all the way up to 100%.
- 02:36 Now that you're finished with the layer style,
- 02:37 if you think you're going to be using this gold style later on, I would
- 02:40 recommend saving it by going to Styles in the top left
- 02:43 and clicking on ‘New Style’ go: ahead and give it a name and you're done.
- 02:46 And that's that for the layer styles.
- 02:49 If you want to get really snazzy, you can download sparkle brushes and add them on top of your
- 02:53 text to give an additional feel or a shine.
- 02:54 I simply Googled
- 02:57 ’Photoshop Sparkle Brushes’ and found a million of them available for free online.
- 03:01 And there you have it: gold text in Photoshop. Like I mentioned before,
- 03:05 depending on your font,
- 03:06 you'll definitely need to play around with the settings to get the best result.
