Quick reference
Morph Transitions
Use the Morph transition to move objects when presenting a slide show.
Morph transitions change objects by calculating the transition between that object and the same object on a different slide at a different location and size.
See also module 26 for more info about Transitions.
When to use
When presenting a slide show.
Instructions
- Place a picture of a shape on a slide.
- In either the Slides Pane or the Slide Sorter view:
- Right-click a thumbnail in the Slide Pane view and select Duplicate Slide.
- Move the image of shape to a new location and change its size.
- Click the Transitions tab and select Morph in the Transitions to this slide group.
- Click F5 on your keyboard to open a slideshow.
- Click the mouse to fire the transition and notice how the transition calculates where the object is on the second (duplicated) slide and ‘morphs’ to it.
- 00:05 One of the coolest things in PowerPoint currently is the Morph transition.
- 00:10 So here I have a slide with a fade transition applied to each one.
- 00:15 I select this particular slide, Ctrl+D, and what I'm going to do is,
- 00:20 as I hold the mouse over the Morph icon, it says,
- 00:24 Move things on previous slide to their new locations on the current slide.
- 00:28 To get the best results, duplicate a slide, move things around,
- 00:31 apply the Morph transition.
- 00:33 Anything you add or delete will fade in or out.
- 00:36 So on this duplicate slide, I'm going to rotate the text to the left,
- 00:40 hold the Ctrl key, left square bracket to move that down in size, move that over.
- 00:46 I'm going to insert some more word art, 365,
- 00:50 Ctrl+A to make that bigger, move that over there.
- 00:56 And then most importantly, don't forget to add the morph transition.
- 01:00 So, we go to this slide and Morph is on the next slide, so when we click,
- 01:05 PowerPoint calculates the previous position of the word PowerPoint and
- 01:10 moves it to the location, as well as fading in the word 365.
- 01:15 Now lots more can be done with text.
- 01:17 On this slide we have two images inserted off the Internet, Ctrl+D.
- 01:23 On the second slide I'm going to rotate left,
- 01:27 I'm going to rotate right.
- 01:30 Move that to there and to there, so that they're roughly positioned the same.
- 01:37 Insert WordArt, I Love Birds, and
- 01:41 then we're going to apply the morph transition.
- 01:47 Go to the previous slide, Shift+F5.
- 01:52 There are the two birds, click, and there are those two objects.
- 01:56 Now if you did that normally with an animation, you'd need to do a rotate
- 02:00 animation as an emphasis, as well as a motion path.
- 02:05 If I go backwards, it works in reverse and works forwards.
- 02:10 And that's a fairly simple one, but it's quite easy to do.
- 02:13 Now in this case I have inserted a 3D object or a 3D model on each slide.
- 02:20 So you can see the little grab handle where I can pull those around.
- 02:23 They're just on the slide randomly, they come in with a Fade.
- 02:26 Duplicate that slide.
- 02:28 Now, what I'm going to do is select all of them, I'm going to reset their size.
- 02:38 I'm going to turn them to the right, move them over.
- 02:42 I'm also going to align to the middle, so that they're all balanced.
- 02:47 Transition > Morph, go to this slide,
- 02:50 Shift+F5 And there they all move to that particular location.
- 02:56 Now let's have a little bit more fun.
- 02:58 Ctrl+D to duplicate the slide > Ctrl+A > Format, let's make them all there.
- 03:05 Ctrl+D > Ctrl+A > Format,
- 03:11 and put them all like that.
- 03:15 Now as we go through our slides, Shift+F5, there they move,
- 03:21 click, they move again, click, they move back.
- 03:26 And that is the end of the slide show.
- 03:27 So that's something that's very easy to do with Morph.
- 03:32 And we're going to add in a couple of little videos at the end of this sequence
- 03:35 just to show you some of the options that have been done with it.
