- 00:05 Here's a more recent feature of PowerPoint.
- 00:07 When it came out, I thought, I hope this is not gonna be like Clip Art,
- 00:11 where you look at it for ages and get really, really bored over the time.
- 00:14 But this is actually quite clever, and it's about inserting icons on to a slide.
- 00:19 Now I go to this particular slide.
- 00:20 You can see that I've got a particular layer, which is my title and content.
- 00:26 And within the placeholder, I've got a little bit of text.
- 00:29 We go to the Insert tab and the icons button in the illustrations group.
- 00:35 PowerPoint loads the icons dialog box in the background.
- 00:38 And down the left hand side, we have various groups.
- 00:41 They are not in alphabetical order, so you'll have to work
- 00:44 your way around to find what you want, and then a range of particular icons.
- 00:49 You can select one, or you can select a number of them, or deselect them.
- 00:54 I'm going to click on this particular thing that looks like a webcam.
- 00:58 Click Insert, and PowerPoint goes away and loads that.
- 01:03 Now instantly, because I've got Design Ideas, which is covered in another module,
- 01:07 turned on, PowerPoint has instantly gone away and
- 01:11 suggested some particular layouts for that slide.
- 01:14 That's something well worth exploring.
- 01:16 But black on gray is not very good, so with the object selected in the
- 01:21 Format tab, you can see that there are particular graphic styles.
- 01:26 And as you move your mouse over them, you can see how they change.
- 01:32 I'm going to go for this particular one, you can also, however,
- 01:35 change them in the graphics fill.
- 01:37 Other from a theme color or a particular standard color or even a custom color.
- 01:43 And that's quite effective.
- 01:45 You can also change the graphic.
- 01:47 So you can change it from a far, from online sources.
- 01:52 Or you can change it to another icon, so let's do that.
- 01:58 We'll select this, insert, and once again,
- 02:01 we have to redo the particular color effect because it's removed it.
- 02:05 You could also convert to shape, which is kind of like a meta file.
- 02:12 And then you can edit various points, if you want to.
- 02:16 And use that to somehow modify the shape, if you wish.
- 02:19 Let's go Ctrl+Z to undo that.
- 02:24 Now, on this particular slide,
- 02:26 I've got a Smart Art graphic that's inserted, and PowerPoint has become
- 02:30 intuitive enough that it's actually integrating some of these technologies.
- 02:35 So I have my original slide here, and
- 02:39 PowerPoint has gone away and loaded those particular icons on backgrounds.
- 02:44 And that is another way that you could use the icons in PowerPoint.
- 02:50 And you could also use this little fly-out button to select a different icon.
- 02:54 And that's quite effective as well as well as see all of the icons.
- 02:59 Again, with all graphic objects if something goes a little bit wonky and
- 03:03 you move something like that, you can always go to the design
- 03:09 tab of the smart art diagram and reset the graphic and that's what it looks like.
- 03:14 You can see how the design ideas has actually changed the background
- 03:19 of that quite intuitively.
- 03:20 We can go back to the Design tab, the design ideas, bring it up
- 03:26 like that particular idea, or indeed, that one, or a range of different ones.
- 03:32 So inserting Icons.
- 03:34 Is as simple as the insert the icons button.
- 03:38 Browse for a particular icon, you can select any of these or select multiples.
- 03:43 Go insert, you can resize them, rotate them and particularly you can change
- 03:48 the outlines as well as change the insert colors or the fill colors of them.
- 03:54 Very effective when used appropriately.
