Creating Effective Notes Inside Evernote
Effective notes save time and effort when it comes to recalling all of your notes. Whether it is a revision or even an important meeting, saving notes with lots of meaning, context, and media will help to provide you with all the information you need to know when it comes to conquering projects and activities. Evernote can become a hub of all of your notes, projects and activities. Over time, building up a strong account on Evernote that's organized and easily searchable helps to save you time searching in detail, even those who've had a messy Evernote account have found value in re-structuring their organization stating that the process provides all they need to excel with their note-taking process.
When to use
- For all those looking to create a simple note-taking process for searchable notes
- For those who have a "messy" Evernote account that can be re-structured
Instructions
- Open Evernote and create your first note
- Clearly, title your note e.g. "Meeting with Sarah | Project A | 28.06.17"
- Providing insight in the title will help it become searchable
- Make sure notes include multimedia if applicable, like images, PDFs, docs, etc.
- Add relevant tags and notebooks to the new note
- Use the exercise to challenge your process of note-taking
Hints & tips
- Remember to add in any media that you think will be valuable
- You can also share the note with others too, so by adding lots of insight, they'll save time too
- 00:00 Hello everyone, welcome back to essential productivity.
- 00:07 My name is Francesco, and I'm your host here for this GoSkills course.
- 00:12 So as you can see, we are back on Evernote, I hope you're enjoying
- 00:16 Evernote so far if you've managed to download it and have some fun with it.
- 00:20 So in today's feature, we're going to be talking about how you can create really
- 00:23 effective notes inside of Evernote.
- 00:27 This can be really important when it comes to exams,
- 00:30 when it comes to working on projects.
- 00:32 And if you want to share your Evernote notes with people because adding as much
- 00:37 detail and as much information as possible is actually really, really important.
- 00:41 So we're just gonna show you a few ways that you can create some really effective
- 00:45 notes inside of Evernote.
- 00:47 Here we have my Mac version.
- 00:49 I want to send over some information about
- 00:53 an email panel design that I'd like our team to take a look at.
- 00:56 This is a blank Evernote note up here.
- 00:59 You can send them to any of the notebooks you have.
- 01:02 And as you can see,
- 01:03 the way I've structured it allows me to quickly find the notebook I found.
- 01:07 But if you don't have that ability, what I would do is I can
- 01:11 type in the notebook I'm looking for and I will click that as Newton Mail.
- 01:15 Once I move that to that, it will appear in the notebook and
- 01:18 no longer in the inbox.
- 01:20 Up here, you can also add tags, which is a great way to organize
- 01:24 if you want to add something like meeting notes as your tag, or design ideas,
- 01:29 then that's something you can and that will quickly help organize all of your
- 01:33 notes in a way that allows you to do it across different notebooks.
- 01:37 You can use all of the formatting features, including font changes,
- 01:41 font size change, bold, italics, underline, color change,
- 01:45 which is quite impressive, and also the ability to highlight.
- 01:48 You can use things like the bullet points, numbered bullet points, and check lists.
- 01:52 Check lists comes particularly in hand when using a project, for example,
- 01:56 being able to list some of the actions for you and your team.
- 01:59 You can enter horizontal lines, move around the text alignment,
- 02:02 and also insert tables to make it a bit more official.
- 02:05 When it comes to adding as much value as possible to your notebook,
- 02:09 use some multimedia functions so you can record any audio and attach it there.
- 02:13 Let's get started with some of this note.
- 02:15 Maybe I wanna share some email design on the conversation panel.
- 02:21 This is our current experience.
- 02:23 This is our current experience.
- 02:27 We should consider moving the tab over.
- 02:33 So as you can see, I've started creating this note.
- 02:35 Any image that you bring in will bleed into the in-line, which is great.
- 02:40 So it means that you can visually show stuff off.
- 02:43 That is the ability to resize this one, so I can quickly make it any size I wish.
- 02:48 When you right-click on the Mac version, you can actually save that,
- 02:51 annotate image as well.
- 02:53 Let’s say, I want to point out the beautiful subject line that we have here.
- 02:57 And also the use of the done button, for example.
- 03:00 What you can do is once you access that, it will change it and
- 03:05 have the ability to see all of those quick adjustments.
- 03:08 So that's a quite a nice way of having the ability to modify some examples.
- 03:14 I can take a snapshot, this can be of me on the camera if I want, and
- 03:18 of course also add any attachment files.
- 03:21 So if I want to add PDFs, a document in any format, you can add that, and
- 03:25 you can add quite a lot of storage up to each note inside if Evernote.
- 03:29 Now, you can attach a file from Google Drive.
- 03:32 So you can see all of these mp4 files, you can import absolutely anything in any
- 03:36 format which is a great way to enhance experience.
- 03:40 Up here, you can also add a reminder, even show in presentation mode and
- 03:45 annotate the note as a full.
- 03:47 So you can annotate the entire note is a PDF.
- 03:49 So you can export it as a PDF and annotate it which is a good way.
- 03:53 Up here, you can modify the title tags, the date it was created as well.
- 03:57 So that's an important one.
- 03:58 And also a URL and any location information, too.
- 04:02 So up here, also, you can share the note, copy the public link,
- 04:05 which is a great way to share stuff quickly.
- 04:08 Those are important because once you add as much detail to them as possible,
- 04:12 this can be something that many people really go into detail on.
- 04:15 I can imagine a lot of students have benefited from this when it comes to
- 04:18 exams, being able to add a lot of multimedia and PDFs, images, and
- 04:24 recordings as much as they can to add as much value to their revision experience.
- 04:29 Anyway, guys, I hope you enjoyed this feature.
- 04:31 We'll be covering Evernote in the next few videos.
- 04:33 So stay tuned.
- 04:34 In the exercise for this feature, we're going to be including some of
- 04:37 the stuff that you can add to an Evernote and going over this in more detail.
- 04:41 So feel free to check out the exercise and
- 04:43 put any questions to me in email if you have any.
- 04:46 Thank you very much.
- 04:47 I'll see you next segment.
