- 00:07 This GoSkills course hosted by me, Francesco D'Alessio.
- 00:12 So in this feature we're going to give you an introduction to Trello.
- 00:15 And I know a lot of you guys probably have heard the name Trello whisking around
- 00:20 the Internet as a resource many people use to keep organized with their tasks and
- 00:26 projects.
- 00:27 There's actually a really great Trello-specific GoSkills course here,
- 00:31 which will give you an insight into how to go as deep as possible
- 00:34 with your Trello account.
- 00:36 So feel free to check that one out.
- 00:38 Let's jump in with sort of startup information that you need to know.
- 00:42 Trello is a project management service.
- 00:44 It was started in 2011 as a project to help people
- 00:49 organize themselves in a very specific style.
- 00:52 Now, it has over 10 million users worldwide.
- 00:56 And it really aims to help you organize your to-dos and projects.
- 01:01 There's lots of different uses for Trello.
- 01:03 And that's what was very beautiful about Trello,
- 01:05 is it's a very flexible experience.
- 01:07 It's used for managing idea, planning activities and events,
- 01:11 starting new projects, visually planning to-dos, and planning with teams.
- 01:16 Now I know a lot of people who use Trello, and they thoroughly enjoy it.
- 01:19 So who actually uses Trello?
- 01:22 As we talked about with Evernote, Trello has a lot of use cases, and
- 01:26 that's mainly due to its flexibility.
- 01:29 But there are a few core examples.
- 01:32 Trello is used by teams.
- 01:33 Small to medium size businesses use Trello as a way to keep themselves
- 01:37 organized with all of their to-do's.
- 01:39 Creatives love to use Trello because of the way that the boards are set up, and
- 01:44 designers love to use it too.
- 01:46 Startups love to use it as well, again, because of this visual organization setup.
- 01:51 And it's not just for teams, it's for individuals as well.
- 01:54 Individuals can use it on their own to organize all of their activities.
- 01:58 Why do people use Trello?
- 02:00 There are a few features that specifically stand out.
- 02:04 Kanban layout is one of the things that a lot of people move to Trello for.
- 02:08 Having the ability to drag a to-do or
- 02:11 project from one status to the next in this board style,
- 02:15 which we'll explain in the next feature, is something that a lot of people enjoy.
- 02:19 Having this Kanban style, this technique that a Japanese company called Motorola
- 02:24 created, is something that a lot of people have been enjoying in the last few years.
- 02:30 There is card input, which means that you can add context to a task that a lot of
- 02:34 people get on with this.
- 02:35 There are lots of integrations as well, power-ups and information like that.
- 02:39 So if you've already got existing services,
- 02:41 you can connect them into Trello.
- 02:44 There's also boards and lists to help you keep organized.
- 02:47 The availability on iOS and Android is good.
- 02:50 And also you've got web as well.
- 02:52 There's no Mac or PC apps.
- 02:54 However, there are these resources that allow you to modify that experience and
- 02:59 actually have a Mac and PC app.
- 03:01 They're worth checking out, but maybe not official.
- 03:05 It's one of the most popular project management resources out there for
- 03:08 teams and individuals, so it's definitely worth considering.
- 03:11 It's obviously got 100 million users for a reason.
- 03:15 In terms of goals and objectives of this feature, we're gonna try and
- 03:18 understand Trello as much as we can.
- 03:20 We're gonna cover the basic functionality, implementation and
- 03:24 some worked examples to give you insight.
- 03:27 The first thing we're gonna do is cover the perfect board setup,
- 03:30 then we're gonna look at creating a team board.
- 03:32 There is also the ability to plan events with Trello, and
- 03:35 being able to create an editorial calendar too.
- 03:38 So actually having an editorial calendar to plan blogs, and videos, and
- 03:42 things like that.
- 03:43 Now we're gonna include some exercises.
- 03:45 If you want more information, Trello Cheat Sheet will give you coverage of
- 03:49 facts about Trello and how to install it and get started.
- 03:53 And also, use cases.
- 03:55 So giving you context about the people who use Trello and
- 03:59 why Trello has been adopted so fast.
- 04:02 Now obviously there are some alternatives out there.
- 04:04 If you're looking for a project management for teams, Asana's a good option.
- 04:08 2-50 people can use it.
- 04:10 This is quite a strong communication tool.
- 04:12 Managing to-dos and projects and
- 04:15 events is the way that you can take advantage of Asana.
- 04:18 Now, there's also TaskWorld, which, again, is very, very similar to Asana.
- 04:22 The project management for teams, between 2-50, and managing to-dos,
- 04:26 projects, events.
- 04:28 And also the ability to chat with teams more effectively.
- 04:31 So those are two strong options, Asana and TaskWorld.
- 04:35 Now in the next feature we're going to discuss how to create the perfect
- 04:38 board setup.
- 04:40 Thank you very much for stopping by.
- 04:42 If you have any Trello-specific questions, feel free to email them to me
- 04:46 on the email in the description, and we'll be happy to help.
