- GTD = Getting Things Done, a productivity method and book by David Allen
- 00:04 Hello everyone, welcome back to Essential Productivity.
- 00:08 I'm your host, Francesco D'Alessio, and welcome back to this GoSkills.com course.
- 00:13 So in this feature we're going to discuss an introduction to Todoist.
- 00:17 Todoist is one of my favorite task management applications and
- 00:21 something that I use on a daily basis.
- 00:23 Todoist has a very long story.
- 00:26 It's about 10 years old now.
- 00:28 And it originates as a task management software.
- 00:31 There are over 10 million users already, and that is growing quite rapidly with
- 00:36 the decline of Wunderlist and other applications like that.
- 00:40 Todoist aims to be your daily to-do list, and
- 00:43 also a sort of project manager in a sense.
- 00:46 However, keeping to this listical style setup.
- 00:50 What is Todoist used for?
- 00:51 It's used for capturing tasks, planning your day ahead, project management, and
- 00:56 assigning tasks to team members.
- 00:58 It is a very flexible experience as well, so it's really capable of doing
- 01:03 a lot of things that many people don't know until they get started with it.
- 01:08 Who actually uses Todoist?
- 01:10 Like I say with Evernote and Trello, Todoist has a wide range of uses.
- 01:13 And there's obviously new ones cropping up every day.
- 01:16 Entrepreneurs are using Todoist, startup teams are using Todoist.
- 01:20 Freelancers and designers and professionals and
- 01:23 students, although students not as much.
- 01:26 Professionals do like to take advantage of the features and
- 01:29 functionality inside of Todoist.
- 01:32 Why do people use Todoist?
- 01:33 There are a few features that sort of stand out inside of Todoist.
- 01:36 Inbox is a great way to quickly add stuff for later to process.
- 01:42 Task input is very rich inside of Todoist.
- 01:45 Which means you can add contacts, so due dates, priorities,
- 01:48 and more information like comments and information like that.
- 01:52 Project lists as well is a great way to organize yourself.
- 01:55 Intelligent input too, so being able to type in something like today at 5 PM and
- 02:00 for it to automatically detect it.
- 02:03 Also smart schedule.
- 02:04 So, for example, if you have five tasks and you're like,
- 02:08 I can't complete them today cuz I've got to go to my son's football game.
- 02:12 Then what you can do is quickly smart schedule them for later.
- 02:14 So it automatically detects your routine and reorganizes all the tasks for you.
- 02:19 There's also Todoist karma,
- 02:21 which basically gives you rewards based on the tasks you complete.
- 02:25 Now, of course, availability is quite good with Todoist.
- 02:28 So iOS, Android, Mac, PC.
- 02:31 And then there are other extensions, Gmail, Chrome and also email as well.
- 02:35 So you can communicate outside of those.
- 02:38 And, of course, used to manage your every day, which is fantastic.
- 02:42 Now in terms of goals and objectives of this feature, we're going to try and
- 02:46 understand Todolist, the basic functionality, implementation,
- 02:50 worked examples as well.
- 02:51 And the features are going to cover adding tasks in the inbox,
- 02:55 creating new projects, creating shared projects,
- 02:58 using the intelligent input to a maximum ability, maximizing your Todoist usage,
- 03:04 which is gonna be a two parter, and also a full worked example.
- 03:09 We're gonna add a cheat sheet to cover the key facts about Todoist and
- 03:12 also Todoist use cases.
- 03:14 So there'll be two exercises for you to explore and learn more about.
- 03:18 In the cheat sheet you'll be able to have the information about how to install and
- 03:22 download to get started.
- 03:24 In terms of alternatives, obviously we'll be talking about Todoist in this feature
- 03:28 but obviously the set up and use of it can be applied to other resources.
- 03:33 There's a couple of resources that I wanna flag up, three to be clear.
- 03:37 2Do App, which is a GTD-focused alternative to Todoist,
- 03:41 has a strong iOS and Mac feature.
- 03:44 Things 3 by Cultured Code has a simple design with personal to-do functions.
- 03:50 No real team communication, assigning tasks and things like that.
- 03:55 Only available on iOS and Mac.
- 03:57 And TickTick, which is probably one of the closest alternatives to it with
- 04:02 an easy to use personal and
- 04:04 team to-do list functions available on most devices like iOS, Mac and Android.
- 04:10 And also PC too, I didn't include that one.
- 04:11 In the next feature, we'll be discussing adding your inbox tasks.
- 04:17 Going over how to get started with that.
- 04:20 If you have any Todoist specific questions, feel free to email me,
- 04:23 my email will be in the description, and I'm happy to answer any of those.
- 04:27 I'm looking forward to the next feature and I'll see you there soon.
