Intelligent Input for Todoist Tasks
Smart language input is one of the best ways to quickly add tasks to Todoist. Intelligent input provides a neat way to add tasks based on date and also attach project, labels, priority levels - all using short code. For example: Meeting with Bob could be "Meeting with Bob tom at 4 pm p3 #meetings".
This would organize everything into the correct folder and plot due dates with speed. Intelligent Input is one of the biggest features of Todoist, allowing you to get things done with speed when clipping tasks.
When to use
- When you are looking to quickly add tasks to your Todoist account
- Use this when you are learning to become an advanced user of Todoist
Instructions
- Begin by adding a task to the inbox
- Start using the intelligent input feature
- Add shorthand messages and tasks, like: "Meeting at Jack's house tomorrow at 4pm"
- Todoist provides a guide on due date formatting and entry that will help
- Add priority 3 with "p3"
- Attach a task to a certain project with "#projectname"
- Add lables with "@lablename"
- Create re-appearing tasks with "every", for e.g. "every 2 days" and "starting Monday" to define when the task appears first
- Use "tod" for today and "tom" for tomorrow
Hints & tips
- Follow the exercise to understand the combinations you can start with
- Attempt to learn as many options as you can to help speed up your Todoist usage
- Disabling Todoist input is possible: read this guide
- You can turn off smart date recognition on a case-by-case basis by pressing delete or backspace on desktop or by tapping on the highlighted word on mobile to unrecognize it. The highlighted word or phrase will instead become part of the task name.
- 00:04 Hello everyone, welcome back to the Essential Productivity.
- 00:08 I'm your host Francesco D'Alessio and in this GoSkills.com course.
- 00:12 We'll be covering a lot of awesome productivity apps and
- 00:15 resources as well as sharing a few ways that you could optimize your experience.
- 00:20 So I hope everyone's been enjoying the course so
- 00:22 far in the last two features on the do-list section.
- 00:25 We covered projects, both shared and
- 00:27 personal projects to help organize your productivity.
- 00:31 As you can see I'm an avid user of Todoist and
- 00:34 I think it's a great resource for being as productive as possible.
- 00:38 There's a feature inside of Todoist which is actually very exciting,
- 00:41 something you can access on iOS, Android, Mac, PC,
- 00:45 etc., which I think is probably one of its leading features.
- 00:49 All you have to do is click add task, I'm gonna clear this back a second, but
- 00:53 as you can see it's a basic way to add your task which is very cool but
- 00:57 this is where the magic happens.
- 00:58 So for example let's say I need to walk the dog every two days starting Monday for
- 01:04 example.
- 01:05 What I can do is I can say, just type in walk the dog every two days
- 01:10 starting Monday.
- 01:14 As you can see, it's weird, 'cause it's highlighted this as something, and
- 01:18 that's what's cool about it.
- 01:19 So basically what you can do is use this intelligent input function.
- 01:23 Once you type something in, it detects it.
- 01:25 All dates, due dates, even priority level.
- 01:28 So if I want to say P3, which is priority 3 it detects that,
- 01:32 I can even add labels, which, say this will take me 20 minutes, for example.
- 01:36 20 minutes and it automatically detects that.
- 01:41 And I can add a project folder.
- 01:42 So that could be Home.
- 01:45 And it would detect that too.
- 01:46 So as you can see, it's starts to build a picture of stuff.
- 01:49 And when I click add task, it will start adding this.
- 01:53 So every two days starting Monday, Monday was yesterday.
- 01:56 So it's appeared in my inbox and every time I click it,
- 01:59 it will reoccur every two days from Monday, which is pretty impressive.
- 02:04 This is something that I know a lot of Todoist users enjoy.
- 02:08 It's something that I like using in my routine.
- 02:11 So let me give you a quick demonstration of how I use it for
- 02:14 example, I want to use it to quickly add stuff.
- 02:18 So for example, if I need to go shopping today so I can write tod at 5 PM.
- 02:24 Add it to a project, give it a p3 and
- 02:28 put buy pasta ingredients for example.
- 02:34 And as you can see it automatically adds everything which is very cool,
- 02:37 very easy to do, and something that goes straight into your Todoist system.
- 02:41 Now you can obviously add labels and things like that, which is very neat.
- 02:44 But all of the functions are very simple, you can even add specific times, so for
- 02:49 example tomorrow at 3 PM.
- 02:52 Or every three weeks, or
- 02:56 every first of the month is detectable, which is incredible.
- 03:01 So you can build up this very, very intricate way for
- 03:05 you to organize yourself.
- 03:06 So you can have recurring reminders and it's very easy to get setup.
- 03:10 So I highly recommend you try all of that out before you move onto another resource,
- 03:15 or a way to enhance your Todoist.
- 03:17 I find it incredibly easy to add things at speed, and it's a great way, I do it
- 03:22 all the time now to quickly add a task to my inbox, or anything else like that.
- 03:26 It's a great way to quickly add that to the next seven days.
- 03:29 We'll be talking specifically in the exercise about how you can
- 03:34 use Todoist intelligent input to the maximum.
- 03:37 I know that there's a lot of people out there who don't understand the functions,
- 03:41 necessarily.
- 03:42 And we're gonna cover absolutely every function that you can use with it.
- 03:45 So that if you're using your Todoist then you can optimize it.
- 03:49 I hope you enjoyed this feature, make sure to check out the next feature where
- 03:52 we'll be exploring how to maximize your Todoist.
- 03:55 This might involve a premium account, however
- 03:57 we will demonstrate some of the functions that are inside the premium account.
- 04:01 The next two features will be that and then we'll be running a full demo of my
- 04:04 Todoist account to showcase how you can optimize your to-do list experience.
- 04:08 Feel free to email me with any questions.
- 04:10 Thank you very much, make sure you have a great day.
- 04:12 Keep productive.
- 04:12 And I'll see you guys in the next feature.
