Remove and Re-Add Areas of the Tableau Screen

• 00:04 Okay, in this video we're going to spend a couple of minutes doing sort of technical
• 00:08 stuff on this worksheet screen, removing things, adding things.
• 00:11 And I'm not talking about data so much, I'm talking about the layout and
• 00:15 the design of this screen itself.
• 00:17 So these pages, these filters, these marks, different menus, and
• 00:21 the layout of this thing.
• 00:23 So there are instances where you may want to tweak this to look a very
• 00:26 specific way.
• 00:27 We're going to look at how to do that in this video.
• 00:28 First, before we do that, we've created this very basic visualization.
• 00:33 If you want to sort of get rid of this or change this, you could just grab this,
• 00:38 drag this anywhere else and sort of drop it out.
• 00:41 And you can see it just disappears and we're back to the way we started,
• 00:44 all right?
• 00:45 So you can see we've got sort of three main areas here.
• 00:49 This menu here on the left, this section here, and
• 00:52 then our main section here right in the middle.
• 00:55 And let's say we want to get rid of some of these things.
• 00:58 So maybe we don't need filters.
• 01:00 So we can click here and click Hide Card, and boom, it's gone.
• 01:03 Maybe we don't need pages, we can hide that card.
• 01:06 And maybe we don't need the marks, we can hide that card.
• 01:08 And you can see that's opened up a lot of space here.
• 01:11 And you may need that if you're working on a specific visualization that you
• 01:15 want to look a very specific way, chances are you're going to need those things.
• 01:19 So how do we get those things back if we've removed them?
• 01:22 Well, we can come up here to Worksheet.
• 01:24 And you can see right here at Show Cards,
• 01:27 we can just reset the cards that brings them all back.
• 01:32 Or we could say, if we wanted to just bring back the page,
• 01:36 we could go to Worksheet and Show Cards, and then we could see,
• 01:41 okay, maybe we want the pages shelf back too, boom.
• 01:44 Now that pops back.
• 01:46 And we can sort of hover your mouse at the top of this thing, and
• 01:50 you can right click and hold the mouse button and then move this around.
• 01:54 So if you want to move these back, that's how you do that.
• 01:57 So we can come back here and let's go to Show Cards and reset our cards, and
• 02:01 they're back again.
• 02:03 So we can also come up to Window here, and for
• 02:06 instance Show Toolbar, we can uncheck that and that toolbar from the top disappears.
• 02:11 If you're not going to be using those toolbars,
• 02:13 you may want to get rid of that just to reduce clutter or something.
• 02:16 We probably want that, so we'll bring it back.
• 02:18 Let's go back to Windows.
• 02:19 Same thing with the status bar down here at the bottom,
• 02:22 you can see that disappears.
• 02:24 And so we can bring that back, all right?
• 02:28 And also Show Side Bar, that whole side bar is gone now, right?
• 02:32 So chances are,
• 02:33 you're really going to need that because that's where all of our data is sitting,
• 02:36 or at least the visualization that we can drag over into our shelves.
• 02:40 That's where that's sitting, so we can bring that back just like that.
• 02:42 So I wanted to just spend a couple of minutes showing you that you can really
• 02:46 sort of modify this screen to look however you want it to look, if you need to add
• 02:51 certain things or remove certain things, that's how you can do it.
• 02:55 But also just to sort of familiarize yourself with what these things
• 02:59 are, right?
• 02:59 So this thing up here is the toolbar.
• 03:02 We can figure that out by clicking on it and seeing it disappeared, right?
• 03:07 We can bring it back.
• 03:09 There's a presentation mode, goes full screen, it just pulls the worksheet up.
• 03:13 And that's kind of interesting.
• 03:15 It's very, [LAUGHS] very matrixy in the white room there, but you can
• 03:20 hit your Escape key to get rid of that and come back to the main looking layout.
• 03:26 That's kind of cool.
• 03:28 Let's see what else, we only have one sheet here, but
• 03:31 you can see it's shown up here.
• 03:33 We can always come down here and create another sheet.
• 03:35 I just clicked on this little plus thing right here.
• 03:37 And now we have two sheets, neither of them have anything in them.
• 03:41 But if we're in our second sheet for instance, and
• 03:43 we wanted to navigate back to the first sheet, we could just like I said,
• 03:47 click down here or we can come up here and toggle between these two things.
• 03:51 We're now on sheet two, we can toggle back and go back to sheet one.
• 03:55 Or we can right click and delete this guy if we don't want that second sheet.
• 04:01 And very cool.
• 04:01 So that's just a very quick sort of overview of how you can tweak and
• 04:05 modify this main worksheet screen.
• 04:07 For the most part, we're probably just going to leave this all the way it is,
• 04:10 the defaults will work for us good, but going forward, if you need to tweak it,
• 04:12 that's how you would do it.
• 04:14 And more importantly, that's how you bring the things back if you accidentally delete
• 04:17 one of these things.
• 04:18 So if I accidentally hit this and I was like, what happened?
• 04:21 Where did it go?
• 04:22 I would just come back up here to Worksheet, go to Cards, and Reset Cards.
• 04:27 Each of these things are cards, as you may have figured out, and very cool.
• 04:31 You can also toggle some of these things, or
• 04:35 changing the defaults of the summary and the captions, and things like that.
• 04:42 I'll let you go ahead and play around with that.
• 04:43 If you're interested, you likely won't be changing most of that, anyway that's cool.
• 04:47 So that's all for this video.
