Using The Pages Card
In this lesson, you'll learn about the Pages Card on the Worksheet screen.
When to use
Use this whenever you want to create a menu to add a little animation to your worksheet.
Instructions
Hold the Control button on your keyboard (Command on Mac) and drag a Dimension to the Pages card. Drop the Dimension pill on the Card.
Hints & tips
- The pages card allows you to create simple animations to cycle through your data.
- Just drag whatever you'd like to animate onto the pages card.
- 00:04 Okay, in this video, I want to talk about the Pages card, and that's right up here.
- 00:08 So let's create another visualization.
- 00:11 Let's grab our Breed and our data as always.
- 00:14 And let me come over here and pick this text table.
- 00:18 And maybe we want to filter, maybe we don't.
- 00:21 For now, let's drag a filter up here and
- 00:23 let's just make this again, 2000 and 9,400.
- 00:27 So we've just got a short little list here.
- 00:29 So the Pages card allow us to sort of cycle through these things
- 00:34 individually, and look at them one at a time.
- 00:38 We could also use different sets of dimensions in here to break them
- 00:41 apart even further and we'll look at that in just a second.
- 00:45 What we can do is just grab, for instance, Breed and
- 00:48 bring it over here dropping into Pages.
- 00:50 Now I hold down the control button while I drag that over there.
- 00:53 And you'll notice right off the bat 2,500 is the only one listed and
- 00:56 over here we have this new menu that's popped up.
- 00:59 And if we click on this,
- 01:00 we could see it has a list of everything in our table here, right?
- 01:04 That's cool.
- 01:06 And then we have these sort of play buttons, and stop buttons.
- 01:10 So we can sort of set up a little animation and click play and
- 01:13 cycle through all these things.
- 01:14 So if I click play here, you can see it slowly starts to cycle through and
- 01:19 add them one at a time and show them one at a time.
- 01:22 This is a great way to sort of have a little presentation or
- 01:26 something or whatever you like to do.
- 01:29 It's just a fun little feature.
- 01:32 Now, we can move forward and back.
- 01:33 I use this button right here to move from top to bottom.
- 01:36 You do the opposite using this one, and then it will start to go back up again.
- 01:41 That's kind of fun as doing it a very stately manner, right?
- 01:44 We can speed that up if we want using these three little buttons right here.
- 01:48 So this is sort of a speed.
- 01:50 So if I hover over this, it says slow.
- 01:52 The medium one is the default, it's normal and this one is fast.
- 01:55 So if I click fast and then play this again, boo, boo, boo, boo, boom, so
- 01:59 they're at maybe too fast for you.
- 02:01 This is the slow, we could see it's very slow.
- 02:04 And maybe you're giving a presentation
- 02:07 you're talking, doing whatever.
- 02:13 Now, I'm using this text table.
- 02:15 We could do the same thing with bar charts or anything else.
- 02:18 So we've got our bar chart here.
- 02:19 And if again, I pull this over, hold the control button and
- 02:24 pull this over, we get the same thing here.
- 02:27 Again, I can hit play.
- 02:29 Well, let's speed this up a little bit.
- 02:31 There we go.
- 02:33 And again, it will cycle through each of the ones and it's just kind of cool.
- 02:38 So I've done this with one dimension here with a Breed.
- 02:42 Let me bring this back over here.
- 02:44 We could pull in other things as well.
- 02:46 So for instance, we want the dog color, we could pull our dog color over here, and
- 02:51 maybe we don't want it right there, maybe we want this as a page.
- 02:54 And you can see we're getting some weird results here.
- 02:56 Before we do this, let's pull this out.
- 02:58 Let's grab our Breed and try this again.
- 03:01 And now it's asking for which ones we want.
- 03:03 Maybe we just want one thing here.
- 03:05 So let's just pick beagles.
- 03:07 So we apply this, we've got beagles there.
- 03:10 And instead of breed, let's do dog name instead, that's kind of fun.
- 03:16 And we want to add all and we can see there's nothing listed because this
- 03:19 filter here, we edit it, it's still listed at 2,000.
- 03:23 So let's back this down to like, from 10 to 50 or so.
- 03:29 We apply this, click OK.
- 03:31 Now we got a whole list of dogs names that are beagles and we can cycle through this.
- 03:37 So let's turn this on.
- 03:39 We can see there are 11 beagles named Annie.
- 03:43 There are, let's slow this down a little bit.
- 03:45 Hold on there.
- 03:47 There we go.
- 03:50 There are 37 beagles named Daisy, there are 21 beagles named Duke and
- 03:53 this will just cycle through here and it's kind of interesting and kind of fun.
- 03:56 So if we wanted to sort of compare, we could say beagles and
- 04:02 I don't know Boston terriers, and I don't know pit bulls and boxers.
- 04:08 Let's say we add all of them, And now we hit this.
- 04:14 You can see not every one of them has dogs named Lucky for instance.
- 04:21 There just aren't any Boston terriers name Lucky.
- 04:23 Here we have one where Lucy and that they all have one.
- 04:27 So you can play around with this, add different dimensions,
- 04:30 tweak it in different ways.
- 04:31 And again, I'm just using this text table.
- 04:34 You could use this for anything,
- 04:36 any of these pages card will work in the same way and that's pretty neat.
- 04:39 So that's all for this video.
- 04:41 In the next video, we're going to start to look at this marks card in greater detail.
