Hints & tips
- To change your mark sizes, just click the Size icon on the Marks Card.
- 00:04 In this video I want to talk about changing the mark sizes.
- 00:07 So let's grab our breed, and drag it up here.
- 00:09 Let's grab our count, and drag it up here.
- 00:12 And so we have a simple horizontal bar chart.
- 00:15 And let me close this a bit.
- 00:17 So these marks, we looked at changing the actual marks themselves.
- 00:21 In this video, I want to show you that you can change the size of these marks,
- 00:25 very easily, just by clicking on this size card right here.
- 00:28 So you can see right here, it's already sort of pretty big by default.
- 00:32 We can move it down, they get a little skinnier.
- 00:35 Move way down, they get much skinnier.
- 00:37 We can bring it all the way up, and they get as big as you can make them.
- 00:41 So, this is very useful, because a lot of times things are just by default,
- 00:46 kind of hard to read.
- 00:47 And it's a quick, and easy way to change how they look, and
- 00:50 make them easier to read.
- 00:51 Now, some of these things you can play around this with,
- 00:54 some of these charts, and graphs you cannot.
- 00:57 For instance, if we click on the heat map, this is a good one for that one,
- 01:01 because you can see, we kind of try, and make this a little bigger here.
- 01:05 You can see, this is not all that useful.
- 01:07 It's kind of useful, but some of these are just so small.
- 01:10 It's hard to tell, but we can click on our size thing here.
- 01:13 Bring it up, and boom, we can make a much bigger.
- 01:16 And we can play around, and that becomes a little more useful, right?
- 01:20 So we can do that for something like that.
- 01:22 For something like this, it's not going to work.
- 01:24 It's just going to change the text font on here, which is probably not what you want.
- 01:29 So, if we make this bigger, boom, it just becomes bigger, which is kind of silly.
- 01:34 I guess maybe you might want to do that, but whatever.
- 01:37 And like, I said, some of these you can't change.
- 01:39 So for instance, packed bubbles, the size of these things is important in this.
- 01:46 So you can't really play with the size here.
- 01:48 If I click on this, nothing is happening.
- 01:50 Same thing here with our tree map.
- 01:52 This is already... Size is already an important part of this.
- 01:56 And Tableau doesn't want you messing with it.
- 01:59 So we can't do anything for that one.
- 02:02 So play around with this, it's kind of useful.
- 02:06 For instance, if we came over here, let's change this to horizontal.
- 02:12 And then for instance, may we change this to a line, okay, that's great.
- 02:15 Now, we want to make this thicker line, boom, there we go.
- 02:20 Really thick, really thick, or super, super skinny, and that's kind of cool too.
- 02:27 So that's how to change the size of your marks.
- 02:29 In the next video, we'll look at tool tips.
