- 00:05 A Trello board is the most basic, or
- 00:07 most fundamental component within the Trello application.
- 00:12 You can think of a Trello board as a work space where you can put as much or
- 00:18 little information as you would like.
- 00:20 Trello allows you to create as many different boards as you would like.
- 00:25 As some can be personal or some you can open up to team members or
- 00:30 colleagues, other people that you'd like to collaborate with.
- 00:33 To create a new board, simply select the Create new board option.
- 00:38 From the Trello dashboard.
- 00:40 The first thing it will ask you to do, is to give your board a title.
- 00:45 Let's call this one Personal Projects.
- 00:48 Simply select the Create button and it will bring us into our brand new board.
- 00:55 Now when you first create a Trello board, there's not an awful lot to see.
- 00:59 You can see we have yet to create any lists, and
- 01:03 you cannot create a card until you've created a list.
- 01:07 But let's get familiar with some of the other components within a Trello board.
- 01:12 By hovering over the board name, you do have the option to rename your board
- 01:17 as often as you'd like. Next to that we have a star icon.
- 01:23 By starring a board, this gives you the ability to favorite a board.
- 01:28 And this will mean this board,
- 01:30 along with others that are favorited will show up in the starred boards area.
- 01:36 And this can be helpful when you're managing many different types of boards.
- 01:40 There may be some boards that you would like access a little more easier,
- 01:44 that you would like to see at the top of your dash board list.
- 01:49 Boards which have been starred will also show at the top of your boards list
- 01:53 when you select the boards button in the top left hand corner.
- 01:58 Next to that, we have the option to make this board Private or Public.
- 02:03 Now by default, each new Trello board is made private,
- 02:07 meaning that only you have access to it or other people that you invite
- 02:12 to this board, but you do have the ability to make your Trello boards public.
- 02:17 And that means that anyone with this link will have access to this board and
- 02:22 it will also be made available in search engines such as Google.
- 02:27 Now, it doesn't mean that everyone can edit this board.
- 02:30 When you make a board public they can only see your board.
- 02:35 But, in most cases you will want to make your board private.
- 02:38 And that is the default option here.
- 02:41 The other thing that we will see is on the right hand side of the screen
- 02:44 the menu option will be open by default.
- 02:48 Let's take a look at two areas here which you may want to change and
- 02:52 get familiar with right away.
- 02:54 The first one is the ability to change your background.
- 02:58 Now, by default a new board will be displayed in the Trello blue color.
- 03:03 But you do have the ability to change to a variety of different colors.
- 03:09 Let's select this purple color for an example.
- 03:12 Now you may be wondering,
- 03:13 why would I want to change the background color of my board?
- 03:18 Well, the biggest advantage here is that when you are viewing or accessing your
- 03:23 many different Trello boards is to have a distinction between your boards.
- 03:29 So again this can be very helpful as your navigating and accessing different boards.
- 03:36 But lets go back to change background and i'm gonna come back to the default color
- 03:40 blue, if you choose to upgrade to the business class of Trello,
- 03:45 you do have the ability to choose a photo, or a pattern, or
- 03:49 even to upload a photo of your choice as your background, here.
- 03:54 But for our example, we're gonna stick with the color blue.
- 03:59 Lastly, I wanna point out the activity feed at the bottom of the menu area.
- 04:05 Trello keeps a record of every single action
- 04:09 which takes place within your Trello board.
- 04:12 Here you can see it shows that I created this board just a few minutes ago.
- 04:17 And it also shows that I changed the background of this board just
- 04:21 a minute ago.
- 04:23 This can be very helpful as you wish to go back and
- 04:26 see what changes have been made especially if you are collaborating with
- 04:31 other individuals and want to see what changes they have made as well.
- 04:36 Now to close the menu, simply select the x in the top right hand corner.
- 04:41 This will give you the ability to see as much space on your Trello board
- 04:44 as you start to work with lists and cards.
- 04:48 And if you need to access the menu again, simply the Show Menu option here.
