Commenting Permissions
You can change who is allowed to comment on the cards:
- Disabled - no one is allowed to comment.
- Members - Allow admins and normal members to comment. This is the default comment setting.
- Members and Observers - Allow admins, normal members, and observers to comment.
- Team members - Allow admins, normal members, observers, and team members to comment.
- Public members - Allow any Trello member to comment. This option is only available if the board is set to public.
Add/Remove Permissions
You can change who is allowed to add members to the board:
- Admins - Allow only board admins to add and invite others.
- All Members - Allow members and board admins to add and invite others. This is the default setting.
Allow Team Members to Join
If a board belongs to a team, you can enable this setting. This will allow any team member to join the board without being invited. This setting will only be available if the board belongs to a team and the board is not private.
Login to download- 00:05 In the previous video we took a look at how we can assign a team to
- 00:09 a particular board.
- 00:11 Let's now take a look at the remaining settings within this menu.
- 00:15 So we can understand the different permissions and
- 00:18 what changing them will do to this Trello board.
- 00:22 The very first option is in regards to cover images.
- 00:26 You may recall, when you upload an attachment to a particular card,
- 00:31 an image will appear on the front.
- 00:34 This will give you the option to disable that feature,
- 00:37 if you don't wish to have such images on the front of your card.
- 00:41 Here's an example in my New Ideas list.
- 00:44 Here you can see the image that I've attached to this card, and
- 00:48 also appears as the cover.
- 00:50 If I disable this option,
- 00:52 future image attachments will no longer appear on the cover front.
- 00:58 It should be noted, as you just saw, even though I've deselected this,
- 01:02 this does not apply to existing card covers.
- 01:06 It will only apply to future image attachments.
- 01:10 Below, we have two very important permissions.
- 01:12 The first one is in regards to commenting.
- 01:15 And this is where you can choose who is allowed to comment on your cards.
- 01:21 Now the first option allows us to disable commenting altogether.
- 01:25 That means that you and
- 01:27 anyone else who has access to this board will not be able to comment.
- 01:31 The second option is for members, and
- 01:34 this is the default selection when you first create a board.
- 01:38 It will allow administrators and normal members to comment.
- 01:42 The third option is for members and observers, and
- 01:46 this will only be enabled if you subscribe to Trello
- 01:50 Business Class.
- 01:51 In Trello Business Class, you can have an observer type.
- 01:55 This is someone who is not a member of the board, but who has access to the board.
- 02:01 And perhaps you would like to give them the ability to comment as well.
- 02:06 Our fourth option is for team members and
- 02:09 this will only be available if you have assigned a team to this board.
- 02:13 So this will allow administrators, members,
- 02:16 observers, and team members to comment.
- 02:19 And lastly, is to open this board up for public comments.
- 02:24 Now this will only be available if you have made your board public.
- 02:29 That means that anyone can search
- 02:32 or find this board.
- 02:34 This maybe applicable if you are looking for feedback from your customers.
- 02:40 Remember, public members would not be able to edit or make changes to cards but
- 02:45 you may wish to hear their feedback and hear their comments within that card.
- 02:52 The second permission has to do with adding or removing members and
- 02:56 there is only two options here, now by default when first setting your board,
- 03:02 the All Members selection will be selected.
- 03:05 And that means that any member has the power to both add and
- 03:09 remove members of this board.
- 03:12 However, you may wish to only give this ability to administrators,
- 03:17 and if so, you would select the Admins option here.
- 03:22 The very last option in the Settings menu is entitled Allow Team Members to Join.
- 03:29 And again, this will be selected by default for a board.
- 03:33 What this means is that even though we have assigned or associated
- 03:38 a team with this board, we will still need to go and invite these members to join.
- 03:44 With this setting selected,
- 03:47 we will not need to invite these members and since they have access,
- 03:51 if they are a part of this HR Department they will be able to join without an invitation.
- 03:57 However, if we would like to have more control and more power over inviting these
- 04:03 members, we can deselect this option and then we will need to invite them directly.
- 04:09 So now we understand the different settings that apply
- 04:12 to a particular Trello board.
