Subscribing to a Card
Understand the benefits of following a card and receiving notifications of card updates.
When to use
To learn how to subscribe to a card that you are not currently assigned to. To understand the differences between subscribing to a card, list, and board.
Instructions
Subscriptions allow you to be notified when another user makes a change to a card, list or board. If you are added as a member of a card, you will automatically be subscribed to that card.
When Subscribed to a Card, You Will Get Notifications for:
- All comments
- Added, changed, and upcoming due dates
- Card moves and archives
When Subscribed to a List or Board:
- You will get the same notifications listed for an individual card, but now for all the cards in a list or board
- You will also get notifications for all newly created cards
Subscribing to a Card
1. Open the card.
2. Select the Subscribe button within the Actions section.
Subscribing to a List
1. Select the ... option in the top right corner of the list.
2. Select the Subscribe option within the menu.
Subscribing to a Board
1. From the board menu, select More.
2. Select the Subscribe option within the menu.

- 00:09 that we talked about notifications.
- 00:12 And that when a member is assigned to a particular card,
- 00:16 by default, that person will also be subscribed to that card.
- 00:21 You will see here within the Actions area
- 00:24 that the Subscribe button has a green check box beside it.
- 00:28 That means that I will receive future notifications for
- 00:32 changes made to this card.
- 00:34 And again, by default,
- 00:36 when a member is added to a card, they will automatically be subscribed.
- 00:41 But, what if you would like to keep an eye on a particular card
- 00:45 without being assigned to that card?
- 00:48 Well, you can subscribe without being a member of that card.
- 00:53 Let's say I'd like to see and be notified of future updates to this particular card.
- 00:59 I can open up the card and under the Actions section, select Subscribe.
- 01:04 And here we see the little green check box again.
- 01:07 Although I'm not a member of this card,
- 01:10 I will now receive notifications to changes to this card in the future.
- 01:15 On the front of the card, you can see this little
- 01:19 eye icon which indicates which cards you are currently subscribed to.
- 01:24 Now a common question is, can I be a member of a card and
- 01:28 yet unsubscribe from that card.
- 01:31 And yes, you can.
- 01:32 Let's go back to this card here.
- 01:34 Even though by default, l am subscribed to this card because l was
- 01:39 assigned a member, l can always choose to deselect this option.
- 01:44 And now going forward, l will not receive updates,
- 01:48 l will not receive notifications of changes made to this card.
- 01:53 Now beyond just subscribing to individual cards,
- 01:56 you also have the power to subscribe to Lists and to Boards.
- 02:02 Let's say I would like to keep an eye on all the changes that are being made to
- 02:06 this particular list.
- 02:08 In the top right corner of any list,
- 02:12 you can select this option and select Subscribe.
- 02:16 By selecting Subscribe, you will receive the same types of notifications of
- 02:21 any changes made to this list, including when new cards are created.
- 02:27 And lastly, if I would like to keep an eye on this entire board,
- 02:31 any changes made within this board, I can go to the Menu option,
- 02:37 select More, and select Subscribe.
- 02:41 So for future card creation, for new comments, for
- 02:46 changes of due dates within this board, I will receive notifications.
- 02:51 So determine if there are some cards or some lists or maybe even
- 02:56 some entire boards that you would like to receive future notifications.
- 03:01 You do not necessarily need to be a member of that card
- 03:05 to receive those types of notifications.
- 03:08 You can use the Subscribe function.
