When to use
To understand the various ways you can use Trello to manage your travels and holidays within a board.
Instructions
Trello is an excellent tool for managing an itinerary or any type of vacation planning. In this example, we will be using lists to represent days of the week.
The different lists represented in this Vacation Planning board example include:
Things To Do Ideas: This list includes all of the attractions and events that a family may want to attend at their destination. It also includes a card with a map of the area near their hotel.
Food Ideas: This list includes all of the restaurants and other places to eat that the family may wish to try while on vacation.
Monday to Friday (vacation dates): The remaining lists on this board represent each day that the family will be spending at their destination. The goal is to drag cards from the first 2 lists into these week day lists to build an itinerary.
Login to download- 00:05 You may be surprised to learn all of the various and different ways that
- 00:09 people have used Trello to manage and organize the things in their life.
- 00:14 In this particular example,
- 00:15 we're gonna look at how we can use Trello to plan an upcoming vacation.
- 00:21 Now, this board is set up a little bit differently than the other boards that
- 00:24 I've shown you.
- 00:25 We have two lists of the beginning of the board, the first one,
- 00:29 titled Things To Do Ideas, and the next one, titled Food Ideas.
- 00:34 But the remaining lists in this board represent days of the week.
- 00:39 And because we are planning a vacation, in this case to Las Vegas,
- 00:43 we have listed the different days of the week in which we will be there.
- 00:47 Including the day that we'll arrive and the day that we are going to fly home.
- 00:52 And of course, it's gonna be most helpful if we put our flight itinerary,
- 00:57 or perhaps our hotel information directly within these cards.
- 01:02 Now, in the first two lists, we start collecting all
- 01:05 the things that we might like to do while we're visiting Las Vegas.
- 01:09 And in the second list, we might start to collect all the different restaurants,
- 01:13 all the different places that we might like to eat.
- 01:17 As we get closer to our vacation day, we start to
- 01:22 drag information from these lists on two particular days of the week.
- 01:27 So for example, if we are going to arrive on Monday afternoon,
- 01:32 perhaps one of the first things that we would like to do is go see the fountains.
- 01:37 So I'm gonna drag that over from my Things To Do Ideas list
- 01:41 into the Monday itinerary.
- 01:44 And perhaps later that evening, we are gonna plan and go and see a show.
- 01:49 But before we do so, we wanna make sure that we get something to eat.
- 01:52 So I can place that card,
- 01:54 I can place the desired food idea directly into that itinerary.
- 01:59 So not only does this list start to represent all the things
- 02:03 that we are going to do that day, but we can reorder it in the way that we would
- 02:08 like to go about participating in those particular events.
- 02:12 And then of course,
- 02:13 we can continue to do that throughout the rest of our vacation week.
- 02:18 You will notice that I've added a label to everything in the Things To Do
- 02:22 list as green, and I've added a blue label to the Food Ideas.
- 02:27 This makes it very easy for
- 02:29 me to, at a glance, see the difference between an event, or
- 02:33 a show, and the place where we are going to eat on that particular day.
- 02:38 And of course, as you start to drag information from these two lists, you get
- 02:44 a nice summary, or a nice short list of the things that you have yet to do.
- 02:49 So an easy way to reference and see if you'd still like to fill in or
- 02:53 fit in some of these activities throughout your vacation.
- 02:57 You'll also notice I have an additional card here which is just a map
- 03:02 of the Las Vegas Strip.
- 03:04 And again, a great way to use Trello as a reference.
- 03:07 Since I plan to have my smartphone on me at all times,
- 03:11 I can always open up this Trello board not only reference my itinerary and
- 03:16 where we would like to be on a given day, but I can also look at the map as well.
- 03:22 So another new and unique way of using a Trello board.
