About this lesson
An Introduction to the course and Windows 11.
Quick reference
Course Introduction
An Introduction to Windows 11 and what to expect from this course.
When to use
Prior to commencing this course, we need to establish a basic knowledge of the usefulness of Windows 11 and why we might upgrade to Microsoft's newest operating system.
Instructions
Windows 11 is the latest operating system release from Microsoft. The operating system on any PC or Mac is the foundation that supports the user interface, applications, and file storage system. It also allows you to easily interact with your PC and applications using the keyboard and mouse.
Launching in October 2021, Windows 11 is available as a free upgrade to current Windows 10 users with compatible systems (we'll talk about this more in the next lesson).
How do I download Windows 11?
There are a couple of ways to download Windows 11.
- Wait for your scheduled free update to be deployed by Microsoft (Windows 10 users only).
- Manually download the software from Microsoft.
What to Expect from this Course
In this course, you will find over 40 video-led lessons split across 10 sections. Each section focus on a specific topic. These are what we call micro-training sessions, with each video running from 4 to 8 minutes in total. This means we can easily fit training into our day by completing a lesson when we have a few spare minutes.
Unlike a training session on Excel, there are no physical, downloadable practice files for this Windows 11 course because we are all working on our own systems. So, we recommend working along with the trainer on your own system, pausing the video where necessary. We also highly encourage you to take notes along the way!
There are exercise files included in this course so we can practice the skills we have learned in each lesson.
Hints & tips
- Download the exercise files and store them somewhere safe.
- 00:03 Windows 11 is the latest operating system released from Microsoft and
- 00:08 the operating system on any PC or Mac is the foundation that supports
- 00:13 the user interface, applications and the storage system.
- 00:17 Launching in October 2021, Windows 11 is available as a free upgrade for
- 00:23 all Windows 10 users but those Windows 10 users must have a compatible system and
- 00:29 I'll talk about that more in the next lesson.
- 00:32 So how do you download Windows 11?
- 00:35 Well there are a couple of different ways.
- 00:37 The first thing you could do if you are a Windows 10 user is wait for
- 00:41 your free download.
- 00:43 Alternatively, if you're impatient like I am,
- 00:46 you can jump onto the Microsoft website and download it now.
- 00:49 So what should you expect from this course?
- 00:52 Well, you're going to find 47 video lead lessons split across 10 sections.
- 00:58 And each of those lessons are bite sized.
- 01:01 So four to eight minutes roughly in length.
- 01:04 There's downloadable exercise files for each section so
- 01:07 you can practice the skills that you've learned.
- 01:10 And for each lesson, there's multiple choice questions so
- 01:13 that we can really test and consolidate our knowledge.
- 01:16 Now with this course, there aren't any downloadable practice files because we're
- 01:20 all using our own system.
- 01:22 My name is Deborah Ashby and I'm an IT trainer and
- 01:25 Microsoft subject matter expert.
- 01:28 And I've been training and supporting Microsoft products for over 25 years now.
- 01:33 So hopefully that qualifies me to be sitting in front of you.
- 01:37 And I've trained thousands of students around the world to help them become
- 01:41 proficient in Microsoft products.
- 01:43 I'm TAP accredited, the holder of a MOS Master certificate, and
- 01:47 also a COLF certification.
- 01:48 And I'm really looking forward to taking you on this journey.
