- 00:04 When you want to begin typing on a document, a blank sheet of paper on
- 00:09 the screen, you are going to be focus on the insertion point.
- 00:13 As you can see, we have a flashing insertion point right here on my screen.
- 00:17 And I'm gonna go ahead and say hello, there we are,
- 00:21 notice the insertion point is now at the end of that line.
- 00:25 If I want to move that insertion point and start typing a line underneath,
- 00:29 I simply hit the Enter key on my keyboard.
- 00:32 And that moves it down, now I can go ahead and type a sentence and in this case,
- 00:37 the insertion point move down a little further.
- 00:40 If I want to bring that insertion point back up to the previous line,
- 00:44 I'm just gonna hit my backspace to bring it up or
- 00:47 I could also just click at the end of that line with my mouse.
- 00:51 So I'm moving my mouse here and I am gonna click and that brought it at the point
- 00:55 back up, so either way, you can hit backspace to bring it back or click.
- 00:59 Now notice the I-beam sitting right beside that flashing insertion point.
- 01:03 Now the I-beam is not my insertion point, but it means I'm in a text area,
- 01:08 and if I were to click right there, I could start typing.
- 01:12 Now I want to start typing about an inch below the previous line,
- 01:16 I could hit enter about three times, or
- 01:18 I could move the I-beam to where I wanna start typing and I can double click click.
- 01:23 There we go, I just placed my insertion point about an inch below the line, and
- 01:28 I can type another sentence.
- 01:30 Now another thing I can do is, maybe I want, in this big space between these
- 01:34 two sentences, I want a centered title, I wanna place a title.
- 01:39 So I'm going to float my mouse in about the center of the screen,
- 01:43 and I'm going to double click, click-click.
- 01:45 I just placed my insertion point in the center of the screen.
- 01:48 Now it might not be exactly center, but it's pretty close, now,
- 01:52 there's another way to do this as well.
- 01:54 I'm gonna go ahead and click behind the sentence, hit my Enter key to drop my
- 01:58 insertion point down, scroll up just a little so you can see my screen, and
- 02:02 I want to draw your attention to these four buttons right up here.
- 02:06 They are alignment buttons, the far right says justify alignment,
- 02:10 this is right alignment, center alignment, and left alignment.
- 02:15 At this point, I want to center align my paragraph.
- 02:18 So this is a Title, and I can hit Enter, and my flashing insertion point tells me
- 02:24 I'm going to be typing in the center, what if I want to have this right aligned?
- 02:30 I can go ahead and click this button up here that says Align Right, click, and
- 02:36 add the right aligned sentence.
- 02:41 And when I hit Enter, notice the insertion point stays over on the right hand side.
- 02:46 If I wanna bring it back, I have an option,
- 02:49 I can double click way back over here on the left, or I can come up here and
- 02:54 hit the Left Aligned button to bring the insertion point back to the left,
- 02:59 this is a left aligned sentence.
- 03:01 So as you can see, you can click around, you can use the alignment buttons, but
- 03:05 the most important lesson here is to look for
- 03:08 that flashing in insertion point because that is where you're going to start typing.
