Easily find pre-designed templates in MS Word for letters, resumes, posters and more.
When to use
Rather than designing your own flyers or business letters from scratch, let MS Word help you with the catalogue of pre-designed templates. This is a time-saving feature that you have access to free-of-charge and with no copyright infringement (because you paid for the MS Word program on your computer.)
Instructions:
1.Click the FILE ribbon then click NEW
The Search box appears at the top of the screen.
2.In the Search box, type the topic to find: “Thank you letter” or “Resume’”
Notice all instances of that topic are displayed
3.To open a template, double click it. To pin it to the top for future use, click the tiny push pin on the corner of the thumbnail image.
4.Edit the document as necessary, save and print.
Login to download- 00:00 Hello, in this lesson I want to show you the predesigned templates
- 00:06 that are available for anyone that has Microsoft Word on their system.
- 00:12 These are templates that you don't have to have to pay for, there are now copyright
- 00:16 infringements because you already paid for the copy of Microsoft Word on your system.
- 00:20 You're free to use these.
- 00:22 At this point in Microsoft Word, you know how to basically type and format and
- 00:27 color your fonts and stuff, but you begin to enter the zone of typing letters or
- 00:32 typing resumes, and you may not know how to lay them out properly.
- 00:36 When you click on the file menu right up here with have new.
- 00:40 So file, new and here is a catalog of predesigned files,
- 00:44 templates, flyers, newsletters,
- 00:47 calendars, invitations, whatever you like, you can click on these and download them.
- 00:52 You do need an active Internet connection in order to get the download.
- 00:56 If there's something, or nothing on that screen you like, right up here,
- 00:59 under the box, we have suggested searches, business, personal, industry, print,
- 01:03 design sets, event, and education.
- 01:04 What I want to do, is I already know what I want to look at.
- 01:08 I want to look at thank you letters.
- 01:09 So I'm just gonna type thank you letter, and hit Enter, and
- 01:12 it is searching online for already predesigned thank you letters.
- 01:16 Notice on the right, it says thank you, 22.
- 01:18 It just found 22 variations of a thank you letter.
- 01:20 We also have business letters, basic letters, industry letters,
- 01:25 personal letters and so forth.
- 01:27 You can go ahead and read through that list.
- 01:29 If it doesn't show you the whole entire name underneath, thank you letter for
- 01:33 job reference, just float your mouse, and the tool tip will show the full name.
- 01:38 If there's any on here that you really like, and so
- 01:41 you'd like to put it to the top cuz you're gonna use it again,
- 01:44 just hit the little pushpin, and it will actually pin it onto the list.
- 01:48 So the next time you come in here, it will be near the top.
- 01:53 If there's a particular letter you would like to download right then and there,
- 01:56 you'll just double click and it will open up the letter onto your screen.
- 02:00 And when this opened it up, it looks a little odd up here.
- 02:02 There's a big gap.
- 02:05 It's just a glitch in Microsoft Word, so what I'm gonna do is I'm just gonna click
- 02:09 off that screen, click right back to it, and look, it fixed itself.
- 02:13 That happens periodically when programs come out with new versions.
- 02:18 There's little tiny glitches in there.
- 02:19 It's not your fault.
- 02:20 It's just the computer.
- 02:21 Just coax it through and it will correct itself.
- 02:24 These are called fields, it has my name at the top, but you can click on a field and
- 02:28 enter your individual information, of course,
- 02:31 when you open your own, it won't have your name.
- 02:34 I'm sorry, it won't have my name there, it will have your name up there.
- 02:38 So I can just type A student, company name, address, city, state,
- 02:41 I would just fill out these fields.
- 02:43 Notice, I don't have to know how to format this, it's already formatted for me.
- 02:48 Again, even the letter is full of different little fields.
- 02:51 Just click around and fill them out, it's very nice.
- 02:54 When you're done, print, and move on.
- 02:57 Okay, I want to go back here, because I want to fill out a resume.
- 03:01 File, new.
- 03:03 In the search, I'm gonna just type resume.
- 03:05 I don't have to put the accent mark at the end, it will know what I'm looking for,
- 03:08 and what will happen is here's all the different kinds of resumes.
- 03:12 Basic resume, functional resume, chronological resume.
- 03:15 And, anyway, just double click on any one of them you like, and
- 03:19 it will download a resume format.
- 03:22 Again, it has my name at the top, because my computer is registered under my name.
- 03:26 It will have your name at the top when you open it.
- 03:30 And again, a bunch of fields.
- 03:31 Now look at this big gap.
- 03:32 Also I'm just gonna click off of it, click right back to it, now the gap is gone.
- 03:38 Again, just a bug in Microsoft Word.
- 03:39 Go ahead and scroll through here.
- 03:41 You'll enter your computer skills, your software skills, your experience, and
- 03:46 this is just one of many resumes that were available.
- 03:49 And I have yet to meet an HR person, human resources person at a company,
- 03:54 who is disappointed that this person used a Microsoft Word template for a resume.
- 03:58 No, that doesn't happen.
- 04:00 They're thrilled that you have a properly formatted resume when you're
- 04:03 applying for a job.
- 04:04 These are perfectly acceptable to use in any job application situation.
- 04:09 So please feel free to go through the catalog under File,
- 04:12 new, review these, it's quite delightful.
- 04:15 Especially when you're looking at flyers and
- 04:16 newsletters that you don't have to design.
- 04:18 You just open them up and add your text.
- 04:21 All right.
- 04:21 Have fun looking through there.
- 04:23 I love it.
- 04:24 It's wonderful.
