Easily find pre-designed templates in MS Word for letters, resumes, posters and more.
When to use
Rather than designing your own flyers or business letters from scratch, let MS Word help you with the catalogue of pre-designed templates. This is a time-saving feature that you have access to free-of-charge and with no copyright infringement (because you paid for the MS Word program on your computer.)
Instructions:
1.Click the FILE ribbon then click NEW
The Search box appears at the top of the screen.
2.In the Search box, type the topic to find: “Thank you letter” or “Resume’”
Notice all instances of that topic are displayed
3.To open a template, double click it. To pin it to the top for future use, click the tiny push pin on the corner of the thumbnail image.
4.Edit the document as necessary, save and print.
Login to download- 00:04 Hello, in this lesson I want to introduce you to the pre-formatted templates
- 00:09 on the file ribbon, click on file and on this list, click on new.
- 00:13 And here are all the templates that are available to you free of charge,
- 00:17 because you have a registered copy of Microsoft Word on your computer so
- 00:22 you can use these for marketing, for personal use, for business use.
- 00:25 There's never a copyright infringement you can look through this list up on top,
- 00:29 you can search for a specific title or
- 00:33 category, or you can just go ahead and click on one here.
- 00:36 I'll activate the business category, so
- 00:38 we can see what comes up under business templates, and now it loads.
- 00:43 It takes just a minute because it's actually looking online for
- 00:46 thousands of templates.
- 00:47 Notice the category list on the right hand side, and then a list of just various
- 00:53 different business related documents come up here.
- 00:57 All right, so I'll go ahead and click on this one.
- 00:59 It looks like a business letter, business design.
- 01:02 I'll go ahead and click create and
- 01:05 you're gonna see a brand new document show up on my screen.
- 01:08 So when this opens up, its got this little gap that shows up.
- 01:12 I'm not sure why that happens.
- 01:13 I think it's just a little glitch in the system.
- 01:15 The best way to get through that is to
- 01:18 just have another document open that you can click onto, and then when you come on
- 01:22 back it takes care of that little space that happens at the top.
- 01:25 Got to be odd but I've seen it happen a lot with templates,
- 01:28 so honestly just click into a different document and it will be fine.
- 01:34 All right, so as you can see my name is here, and then company name and
- 01:38 company address.
- 01:39 These are called fields and so it's just prompting me to fill in the information
- 01:44 that it's requesting, and so, of course your name would here on yours.
- 01:48 Whatever name is registered on that computer will show up here, and
- 01:51 so here I would enter the date, here the recipient name.
- 01:55 Basically what's happening here is if you don't know how to layout a formal letter,
- 01:59 it's got it all laid out for you.
- 02:01 So you don't have to worry about not knowing letter structure,
- 02:05 it's going to do it for you.
- 02:06 I'm gonna go ahead and click on this button,
- 02:07 this is Print Preview, because you're seeing just a snapshot on the screen,
- 02:11 but when I click Print Preview, you're actually going to see the letter format,
- 02:16 so if I do hit print, this is what it's going to look like.
- 02:19 Isn't that a lovely letter?
- 02:21 I would absolutely feel confident in typing that letter and sending it out.
- 02:25 All right, let's go ahead and find something else.
- 02:27 I'll go ahead and click on New again, and this time, I'm going to search, and
- 02:31 I'm going to search for a resume.
- 02:35 I don't even have to add the accent mark to it, I'm just going to type resume.
- 02:38 It's going to search through, and
- 02:40 you're going to see various styles of resumes on the screen.
- 02:44 So you can choose whichever one you like, whichever one you'd like to use.
- 02:47 I have yet to meet any HR person who was disappointed that the resume
- 02:51 that came in was an obvious template from Microsoft, honestly, they don’t care.
- 02:56 Now, here we go again, I’ve got the gap.
- 02:59 I’ve got just an extra one open, click on that and
- 03:03 just come right back, there we go, got rid of the gap.
- 03:05 As you can see, again,
- 03:07 my name automatically appears at the top because my computer is registered there.
- 03:11 And then it wants me to fill in my City, State, Zip My telephone, my email,
- 03:14 I would just enter that information.
- 03:16 And look at this, it's prompting me for
- 03:18 all the specific information, already formatted.
- 03:21 You don't have to be a word export to do a resume, it's already there for you.
- 03:26 Anyway, as I was saying about the HR people,
- 03:28 they're just happy you have a well-formatted resume.
- 03:30 They really don't care that is wasn't a Microsoft template.
- 03:34 In fact you'll probably get points for
- 03:35 knowing how to use Microsoft to its fullest extent.
- 03:38 All right and then next would be a snapshot, a print preview snapshot of what
- 03:42 it's gonna look like when it prints out, it's awesome.
- 03:45 I hope you use these templates.
- 03:46 They're very useful, they're very user friendly,
- 03:48 they're very self explanatory and they are free of charge.
- 03:52 All right.
- 03:52 Thank you
