Display a Yammer Community in Teams
We display a Yammer (Viva Engage) community in Teams when we want team members to easily access discussion content and features.
Instructions
There are several ways to add Yammer to Microsoft Teams. Each method requires us to add the Yammer app. We can either click on Apps in the left-hand menu, click on the plus (+) button in the tabs area or we can add from the channel. This is the method we are going to use.
- Go to a Teams channel
- Click the plus (+) button at the top by the tabs
- Search for 'Yammer or Viva Engage'
- Select the app and click Add
From here, we can add an entire Yammer community or a specific Yammer topic.
- From the Content type drop-down select Yammer community
- Select the community you want to add
- Click Save
The community will be loaded into a tab.
Yammer is now Viva Engage
- Please note: When this lesson was recorded, Microsoft was in the process of rebranding Yammer to Viva Engage. If you access the app now, you will see a message confirming it is now called Viva Engage, and the app will work the same as you saw in this lesson.
- 00:04 Earlier on in the course, we saw how we can create vibrant communities
- 00:08 using Yammer, or as it's now known, Viva Engage.
- 00:12 And the good news is we can also add those communities into Microsoft Teams so
- 00:17 that they're easily accessible.
- 00:19 So let's explore how we go about doing this in this lesson.
- 00:23 And as you might expect,
- 00:25 this is fairly similar to how we add other applications to Microsoft Teams.
- 00:30 Now, as always, there are a few different ways that you can add a community.
- 00:34 You can search for Yammer in the apps area just here.
- 00:38 You could click on the three dots and search for Yammer just here.
- 00:42 Or alternatively, you can go to the team and the channel, and
- 00:46 we're going to use Project Alpha in this example.
- 00:50 Click on the channel, we're just going to click on the general channel, and
- 00:54 then we can click on the + at the top to add our community as a tab.
- 00:59 So let's do it this way.
- 01:00 Let's click Add a tab.
- 01:03 And then we can search for the app that we want to add.
- 01:05 Now you can search for Yammer or Viva Engage and the same thing will come up.
- 01:11 So you can see I've searched for Yammer.
- 01:13 It's found Viva Engage.
- 01:15 That's exactly what we want.
- 01:16 Let's select it and then we can just click on Add to add this application to Teams.
- 01:22 Now notice here, we get a little bit of information about Viva Engage or Yammer.
- 01:26 And then we can choose the content type that we want to add.
- 01:29 So with Yammer, we can add an entire community or
- 01:32 we can add a specific Yammer topic.
- 01:35 Now, in this case, I'm going to add an entire community and
- 01:38 then we can search for the community that we want to add.
- 01:41 And if we scroll down a little bit,
- 01:43 you can see it's pulling up a list of some of my recent communities.
- 01:46 Now the one that we're going to add is Project Alpha, but
- 01:49 just to show you how this search works, if I was to start typing in Project Alpha,
- 01:54 you can see it finds it, I can select the community, and then click on Save.
- 01:59 And there we go,
- 02:00 it literally loads the entire community into a tab within this channel.
- 02:04 And we can use this as we would if we were working with Yammer in the native
- 02:09 application.
- 02:10 We can start discussions, we can add questions,
- 02:13 we can send praise, we can share documents.
- 02:16 And of course, if we click the drop-down at the top,
- 02:19 we can rename this tab as well.
- 02:21 So maybe you don't want it to be called Project Alpha discussion, maybe we just
- 02:27 want to rename this to Yammer because this team is all about Project Alpha, so it
- 02:32 stands to reason that the Yammer community will also be related to Project Alpha.
- 02:37 So we're just going to call it Yammer, click on Save,
- 02:40 and there we have our community added.
