About this lesson
Will a friend notice the "hook" of your introduction? What do they like or dislike about your 30 second video?
- 00:04 If you've done what I've asked you, you should be feeling pretty comfortable now,
- 00:09 fairly confident about your introduction,
- 00:11 your ability to introduce yourself in front of small groups or large groups.
- 00:16 Now let's do one more test, I want you to take that best video that
- 00:21 you made of yourself and I want you to email it to several friends.
- 00:26 But I want you to do in a particular way, I want you to call a friend, email it to
- 00:31 them right then and say, hey Bill or hey, Sandy, I just emailed you something,
- 00:35 can you take a quick look, I just need your feedback, it's only 30 seconds long.
- 00:42 Ideally they're at a computer, they're at a desktop or someplace where
- 00:47 they can actually click on it, watch it, hear it while you're on the phone.
- 00:55 And then right after they've heard it and you can hear it coming through the phone,
- 00:59 ask them, how is one of you give me some feedback?
- 01:03 What did you like about that?
- 01:04 What do you remember about it?
- 01:06 See what they say.
- 01:09 If they just say, everything's professional, that's great,
- 01:13 means you probably didn't say something interesting.
- 01:16 You want them talking about the specific thing you mentioned, the hook.
- 01:21 You also want them to say well, you seem relaxed, comfortable.
- 01:25 Ideally you have them comment that they didn't even know you had that
- 01:29 special report, or that book, or that special white paper you're giving away,
- 01:34 they'd like it themselves.
- 01:37 I would also ask if there's anything they don't like.
- 01:42 If they say, well, you seem scared or that product you give me sounds really cheesy.
- 01:46 It sounds like an infomercial.
- 01:48 Listen to them.
- 01:49 Doesn't mean I would change everything just based on what one person says.
- 01:54 But here's my challenge to you, I want you to call five people,
- 01:58 try to talk to at least three.
- 02:00 Let's get some independent verification.
- 02:02 You already feel good about your introduction because you've watched it,
- 02:06 you practiced it and watch it to the point where you like it.
- 02:09 But if you have independent verification from others telling you what
- 02:13 the message is, that they get it, that they like it you're coming across well.
- 02:18 That's going to further boost your confidence and
- 02:21 you're going to be fantastic the next time you have to introduce yourself.
- 02:26 But there's also a possibility that you are missing something, that you are using
- 02:31 an acronym or initial, and this is frankly a big problem with a lot of associations.
- 02:37 Hi, I'm TJ Walker CSP, and I blah, blah, no one outside the couple
- 02:42 1000 members of the professional Speakers Association know what CSP is.
- 02:48 And it's just confusing.
- 02:51 My advice other than MD, or JD, I wouldn't use any initials when
- 02:55 introducing yourself, that I wouldn't even use those initials.
- 03:01 By the way, I'm not a CSP,
- 03:02 I don't want anyone thinking I'm inflating credentials here.
- 03:06 So I want you to call five friends associates colleagues,
- 03:12 send them that video.
- 03:14 Ask them to watch it right then you want the immediate feedback,
- 03:18 their immediate response.
- 03:19 Do that right now.
