When to use
Prior to using Copilot, we need to ensure we are using the correct version to suit our needs and that starts by understanding the difference between Copilot, Copilot Pro, and Copilot for Microsoft 365.
Instructions
There are 3 versions of Copilot: Copilot (for Bing - free), Copilot Pro, and Copilot for Microsoft 365 Apps.
Before deciding which version meets our needs, we need to understand the difference, what's included, and how much they cost.
Copilot (Free)
Copilot is a free, browser-based AI companion. We can retrieve information, ask questions, get answers fast, and generate AI images. Copilot can be accessed via any web browser by navigating to copilot.microsoft.com.
Copilot Pro
Copilot Pro is a subscription-based version of Copilot aimed at people with personal and family plans who want a bit more bang for their buck. Copilot Pro is powered by GPT-4 Turbo, ensuring subscribers experience the fastest version of Copilot with priority access. Copilot Pro is integrated with the Office applications you use every day: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. It is not integrated with business-focused applications like Microsoft Teams, Loop, and Whiteboard.
Copilot for Microsoft 365 Apps
Designed for business users, Copilot for Microsoft 365 Apps is available for an added fee on top of your M365 license. It includes all of the features and functionality of Copilot Pro with the addition of Copilot within business applications like Teams, Loop, Whiteboard, and Outlook. Work directly with Copilot without leaving your application.
What Can I Do?
Let's run through the tasks that can be performed with Copilot in each application.
Word
Copilot transforms our writing. We can create draft documents from scratch, edit text, visualize information in tables, refine, and summarize documents.

Excel
Copilot in Excel lets us analyze and explore our data. Apply conditional formatting, sort and filter with ease, add formula columns, create Pivot Tables and charts, and gain insight by asking questions.
Outlook
Copilot in Outlook helps us stay on top of our inbox and manage emails in a fraction of the time. We can use Copilot to draft new emails, create meaningful responses to emails, and adjust tone and length. We even have a Copilot coach to check our emails for tone, clarity, and emotion.

Login to download- 00:04 There are currently three versions of Copilot to suit a variety of needs.
- 00:09 Copilot and Copilot Pro for individuals and Copilot for
- 00:13 Microsoft 365 for organizations.
- 00:16 So what's included in each, and more importantly, how much do they cost?
- 00:22 Copilot is the free offering from Microsoft.
- 00:25 It can be accessed via the web, or
- 00:27 you can download the Copilot app to your mobile device.
- 00:32 We can use Copilot to retrieve data from the web, answer questions, and
- 00:37 with its integration with DALL-E, generate AI images based on your prompt.
- 00:42 For example, I asked Copilot to generate an image of a girl working on a laptop
- 00:47 while sitting on the wing of a plane, and this is what it came up with.
- 00:52 Now, I can't lie, it's pretty cool, a little bit freaky, but a lot of fun.
- 00:57 And so useful if you are looking at generating unique looking YouTube
- 01:02 thumbnails, Facebook banners, or maybe even website images.
- 01:07 Copilot Pro is the next step up from Copilot and you're going to need
- 01:11 a Microsoft 365 personal or family subscription to access it.
- 01:16 It costs an additional $20 a month to upgrade your current Microsoft 365
- 01:21 plan to use Copilot Pro.
- 01:23 Copilot Pro gives you access to GPT-4 Turbo and can do everything that
- 01:28 Copilot does, but it's also integrated with Microsoft 365 applications,
- 01:34 Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
- 01:39 And if we look a bit further down the road as this product develops,
- 01:43 Copilot GPT Builder is scheduled to be added to the Copilot Pro offering.
- 01:47 Copilot for Microsoft 365 is an add-on plan for organizations.
- 01:52 Previously only available to businesses with 300 plus users, this has now
- 01:57 been changed to include small to medium companies with less than 300 users.
- 02:03 It's also available to individual Microsoft 365
- 02:07 users with the following subscription plans via a partner.
- 02:12 Copilot Microsoft 365 costs $30 to upgrade your plan.
- 02:16 And for that we get a supercharged,
- 02:19 upgraded application including Copilot in Microsoft Teams and Loop.
- 02:25 Now, this course very much focuses on using Copilot within our daily
- 02:30 applications.
- 02:31 So Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- 02:34 I'm going to go through with you some of the best use cases.
- 02:38 But before we get on to all of that, let's just run through a quick overview of each
- 02:42 of those main apps and the types of things where Copilot is going to be beneficial.
- 02:47 Copilot in Word transforms your writing with efficiency and creativity.
- 02:53 You can create, summarize, comprehend, refine, and elevate your documents.
- 02:59 Now you can use enhanced capabilities like visualizing and
- 03:03 transforming text into a table.
- 03:05 Some other capabilities also include adding onto existing prompts,
- 03:10 drafting a document by referencing up to three existing documents,
- 03:15 and discovering information about your document.
- 03:18 Copilot in PowerPoint helps you turn your ideas into stunning presentations.
- 03:23 And so far Copilot in PowerPoint is my favorite out of everything.
- 03:27 As your storytelling partner, Copilot can transform existing written
- 03:32 documents into decks complete with speaker notes and sources.
- 03:37 Or it can start a new presentation from a simple prompt or outline.
- 03:42 It can also condense lengthy presentations at the click of a button and
- 03:46 use natural language commands to adjust layouts, reformat text, and
- 03:51 perfectly time animations.
- 03:53 Copilot in Excel works alongside you to help you analyze and explore your data.
- 03:59 Copilot can help you explore and
- 04:01 understand your data better as it helps us analyze and visualize.
- 04:05 We can highlight, we can filter, and we can sort our data.
- 04:09 Copilot in Outlook helps you stay on top of your inbox and
- 04:13 create impactful communication in a fraction of the time.
- 04:17 Now, you can ask Copilot to summarize an email thread to quickly jump to the source
- 04:22 of the summarized content, suggest action items, replies, and follow-up meetings.
- 04:27 You can also choose options for length and tone when drafting an email.
- 04:32 Recap conversations, organize key discussion points, and
- 04:36 summarize key actions.
- 04:37 We can get answers to specific questions, catch up on anything that we've missed.
- 04:41 And we can also do things like create meeting agendas based on our teams chat
- 04:46 history.
- 04:47 Copilot in Microsoft Loop helps you unlock the power of shared thinking,
- 04:52 get up to speed and stay in sync with your teammates.
- 04:56 Now you can iterate within Copilot collaboratively as a team.
- 05:00 Co-creating prompts, generating tables to help organize team projects.
- 05:05 Catch up where your teammates left off.
- 05:07 Summarize page content, and generate a recap for
- 05:10 teammates you're handing work off to.
- 05:12 Copilot is also available in the whiteboard.
- 05:16 It helps you kickstart and accelerate your ideation processed to generate,
- 05:21 categorize, and summarize your ideas.
- 05:23 Copilot in OneNote helps you revolutionize the way you plan and organize,
- 05:28 staying better prepared and proactively taking action from notes.
- 05:33 Now you can gain deeper insights on your notes by asking comprehensive questions,
- 05:38 generating summaries of your content.
- 05:41 And you can ask Copilot to generate content for you and
