Introducing Copilot - Your Helpful AI Assistant
Get started with AI by harnessing the power of Copilot for Microsoft 365 application.
When to use
We use Copilot whenever we want to get assistance from AI when working in our favorite Office applications.
Instructions
The tech world has been 'buzzing' about AI for quite some time. Applications like Chat GPT have grabbed the headlines as a quick way to generate content, answer questions, and take the hard work out of mundane tasks.
With any new technology, particularly AI, some people will embrace it whilst others are more wary. Talk of AI taking people's jobs and making certain roles obsolete are valid concerns.
However, AI is not going anywhere so we have a choice to embrace the new technology and work with it or ignore it and get left behind.
Microsoft showed its commitment to AI tools by purchasing Open AI, the owners of Chat GPT, and releasing its own tool, Copilot late last year.
Upon the initial release of Copilot, it was only available to large organizations of 300 users or more at a cost of $30 per month, per license.
Understandably, this was universally disliked by everyone hoping to use Copilot.
Fortunately, Microsoft was quick to react to the backlash and relaunched Copilot to accommodate small and medium-sized organizations as well as general Microsoft 365 users. This new offering was to sit alongside the FREE version of Copilot that's accessible to all, Copilot for Bing.
Now we have three offerings: Copilot, Copilot Pro, and Copilot for Microsoft 365 applications.
In this course, we will focus on Copilot for Microsoft 365 applications which allows us to access Microsoft's helpful AI assistant from within the Microsoft Office applications.
Hints & tips
- Copilot for Microsoft 365 applications is available to small, medium, and large organizations and Microsoft 365 users for an additional monthly fee. For more information, go to Copilot for Microsoft 365.
- 00:04 If you've spent any amount of time online or maybe on LinkedIn in recent months,
- 00:09 you're probably very well aware of the excitement surrounding AI.
- 00:14 Applications like OpenAI ChatGPT shook the tech world with its ability to generate
- 00:20 content, answer questions, and take a lot of the hard work out of many tasks.
- 00:25 Hello, everyone, my name is Deborah Ashby.
- 00:27 I'm a Microsoft MVP, and I'm going to be your host for this course.
- 00:32 Now, of course, with any new technology, there are people who dive in and
- 00:37 fully embrace it, and others who are a little bit more wary.
- 00:42 And ChatGPT definitely did raise a lot of concerns about bots taking
- 00:47 over the world and the potential for certain jobs to become obsolete.
- 00:52 And I have to say as a Microsoft trainer, I myself did get a little bit
- 00:57 worried when I saw ChatGPT doing things like writing Excel formulas.
- 01:03 However, learning to embrace new technology and adapt to change is the best
- 01:07 way to stay ahead of the game, because this technology isn't going to go away.
- 01:13 So is this a training course about ChatGPT?
- 01:16 Well, no, it isn't.
- 01:18 Because last year, Microsoft purchased OpenAI and
- 01:21 develop their own AI assistant, Copilot.
- 01:24 Launched to the masses in November 2023,
- 01:27 Copilot promised to be your helpful AI assistant.
- 01:31 However, it had one huge deal-breaking caveat.
- 01:35 It was only available to organizations with more than 300 users.
- 01:40 Effectively, you had to buy 300 licenses at $30 each as a minimum.
- 01:46 Now, not surprisingly, this didn't go down well with most people.
- 01:50 Everybody was eager to embrace the technology, but
- 01:53 this blocker to entry was really something that needed to be addressed.
- 01:58 Well, I am very pleased to announce that this indeed was addressed with Microsoft
- 02:03 in the last couple of weeks.
- 02:05 They announced that Copilot is now available to small and
- 02:09 medium sized organizations and also Microsoft 365 users.
- 02:14 Now we have three choices Copilot, Copilot Pro, and Copilot for Microsoft 365.
- 02:21 But the best news is, Copilot is free for all and
- 02:24 can be accessed on the web or via the Copilot app on your mobile device.
- 02:29 Not only can we use Copilot to generate information and answer questions, it's
- 02:34 integrated with Darley, meaning we can now use Copilot to generate images too.
- 02:40 Probably the most fun way that I've found to use Copilot.
- 02:45 Now in this course, we're going to focus on Copilot for Microsoft 365.
- 02:49 This is Copilot integrated seamlessly into our favorite Office applications.
- 02:55 We can now use Copilot inside Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams,
- 03:00 OneNote, and Microsoft Loop.
- 03:03 We'll explore how Copilot works in each application, walk through the best
- 03:08 use cases for Copilot, and of course, use Copilot to have some fun.
- 03:13 So if you're looking to get started with AI, this is the course for you.
- 03:17 So let's dive in.
