Quick reference
Create a New Presentation with Copilot and Designer
Use Copilot and its 'sister' AI utility Designer to create a new PowerPoint presentation from scratch.
When to use
We use Copilot to create a PowerPoint presentation whenever we want to save time and build a basic slide deck quickly.
Instructions
- From a blank presentation, open Copilot.
- Type the prompt: 'Create a presentation about the history of yoga. Include the most common yoga poses. Presentation should be at least 15 slides long.'
- Press Enter.
Copilot will create the presentation as per the prompt instructions and also add notes to each slide.
We can change anything we don't like such as replacing the images, fonts, and themes.
Replace Fonts
Let's use Copilot to replace all fonts in the presentation with 'Aptos'.
- Type the prompt: 'Replace all fonts with Aptos'.
- Press Enter.
Remove Bullets
We can use Copilot to remove bullets from one or more slides.
- Type the prompt: 'Remove bullets from slide 3'.
- Press Enter.
Delete Slides
Copilot can assist us with deleting slides.
- Type the prompt: 'Delete slide 15'.
- Press Enter.
Change Slide Design
We can change the design of any slide using the Designer.
- From the Home tab, click Designer.
- Choose a design from the list.
Hints & tips
- It's worth noting that at the moment it is sometimes quicker to apply formatting manually. This will change over time as Copilot becomes more developed.
- 00:04 In this section of the course,
- 00:06 we're moving on to taking a look at Copilot in PowerPoint.
- 00:09 And this is probably one of my favorite applications to use Copilot in.
- 00:13 It can help us build a presentation from scratch, create a presentation based off
- 00:18 an existing document, and even use our own branded templates.
- 00:22 Now, as usual, the same rules apply.
- 00:25 So we need to make sure we've saved our presentation to OneDrive.
- 00:28 We have Autosave toggled on.
- 00:30 And what you'll notice is that Copilot is right next to the Designer tool,
- 00:35 because Designer also uses AI to help us design our presentations.
- 00:39 And these two work really well together.
- 00:42 Now, when you open up the Copilot pane,
- 00:44 you're going to see some prompts at the top here.
- 00:46 So we can create a presentation, create a presentation from a file, or
- 00:50 we can add a slide about.
- 00:52 And of course, we can type our own prompt underneath.
- 00:55 Also, notice at the bottom of this prompt box, we have a view prompts area.
- 01:00 So this is where we can go to get help when it comes to the types of prompts
- 01:03 we might want to construct.
- 01:05 We can also choose to dictate our prompt instead of typing it in, so
- 01:09 we can turn on our microphone and just start speaking.
- 01:13 Now, we're going to create a presentation, so let's click that prompt.
- 01:16 And let's elaborate a bit more about the presentation that we want to create.
- 01:21 So I'm going to create a presentation from scratch about the history of Yoga.
- 01:25 I want to include the most common Yoga poses, and
- 01:29 I want the presentation to be at least 15 slides long.
- 01:34 So I'm being pretty specific there about what I want.
- 01:38 I'm also going to clarify the tone.
- 01:39 So I want to keep the tone informal.
- 01:42 So we're going to send this through.
- 01:44 I've given Copilot quite a bit of information to work with.
- 01:48 So in the background it's going away and it's pulling the relevant information from
- 01:52 different sites and it's going to build the presentation for me.
- 01:56 Now, I will say that the presentation that it builds as in the design can sometimes
- 02:01 be a little bit old-school looking, but remember, every element can be changed.
- 02:06 So if you don't like the images that it chooses to use,
- 02:08 you can switch those out for your own.
- 02:10 The power here is the fact that you can start with nothing and
- 02:13 get the bare bones of a presentation in place,
- 02:16 because then it's going to be a lot quicker for you to simply modify it.
- 02:21 And you can see what is built here.
- 02:22 This actually looks pretty good.
- 02:23 I quite like the imagery it's used and also the color scheme.
- 02:27 As I said, every single element is editable.
- 02:31 But if we take a look, it has everything in there that I ask for,
- 02:34 the most common Yoga poses.
- 02:36 The history of Yoga and the different types of Yoga.
- 02:39 And it's created 15 slides, which was also one of the requirements in the prompt.
- 02:45 Now, another cool thing about working with copilot and
- 02:48 PowerPoint is that it will also add slide notes for you.
- 02:51 Take a look underneath each slide, I have those notes.
- 02:55 So if I was to go into presenter view, I'm going to be able to see those notes, which
- 03:00 is going to make my life a lot easier when I'm presenting this to an audience.
- 03:05 And of course you can modify those notes if you want to.
- 03:08 So let's just jump across to Presenter View.
- 03:10 And there you go.
- 03:11 You can see the slides and we can see those notes.
- 03:15 So I really like that feature.
- 03:16 I love that it adds notes.
- 03:18 Let's get Copilot to change all of the title placeholders to bold.
- 03:23 This is another really cool little feature.
- 03:25 Let's try replacing all of the fonts because I don't really like this font.
- 03:29 So we're going to type in our prompt replace all fonts with Aptos.
- 03:34 And Aptos is one of the newer fonts in PowerPoint 365.
- 03:38 And there you go.
- 03:39 You can see that immediate on that title slide, we now have Aptos font in use.
- 03:43 So you can use Copilot to make further modifications and edits to your slides.
- 03:49 What about removing bullets?
- 03:50 Let's try and remove the bullets from slide number 3.
- 03:53 And you can see it's managed to cope with that as well.
- 03:56 Now, I don't particularly like that, so
- 03:58 I'm going to undo to put those bullets points back again.
- 04:01 But hopefully you can see the types of things that you can do.
- 04:04 Now, let's jump to the last slide.
- 04:07 And maybe I don't want this slide in the presentation, so
- 04:10 I'm just going to say delete slide 15 from the presentation.
- 04:14 Let's see if Copilot can handle that as well.
- 04:16 Yes, it can.
- 04:17 And that slide has now gone.
- 04:19 So very quickly here, we've managed to create a presentation from nothing.
- 04:23 It's designed pretty nicely and we've managed to make some really cool edits.
- 04:28 And as I mentioned, we can use designer in
- 04:30 collaboration with Copilot to make design changes to our slides.
- 04:35 So if I go through each slide and click on Designer,
- 04:37 you can see that I'm getting different slide layouts.
- 04:40 Now these are all fairly similar, they're just very slightly different.
- 04:43 So maybe I like this one at the bottom.
- 04:46 Let's switch that out.
- 04:47 I think that looks a lot nicer.
- 04:48 Now if we go back to copilot and click on View Prompts and go into create,
- 04:53 we can say add a slide about.
- 04:55 So maybe I've decided that I want to add another slide into this presentation about
- 04:59 the health benefits of Yoga.
- 05:02 And you can see, there we go, it's added it in with the relevant text and
- 05:06 I can then just pick it up and drag it to the correct position.
- 05:09 So I'm going to put this at the end of the presentation.
- 05:12 So hopefully, you've seen there are a few examples of how easy and
- 05:15 quick it is to create a presentation from scratch.
- 05:18 Use Designer to redesign the slides.
- 05:21 And use copilot to make modifications, like changing the fonts,
- 05:26 changing the text, and deleting slides.
