- 00:04 You have to have some fun in life.
- 00:07 That may sound trivial, you may be thinking TJ I'm working hard on creating
- 00:11 a billion dollar business, I don't have time for that.
- 00:14 Well, it's a sad thing when you see people retire at 60, 65, 70 and say,
- 00:19 now I can relax and have fun and then they realize there's nothing in their life.
- 00:25 All they can do is watch the news or watch Wheel of Fortune.
- 00:29 They have no sense of true leisure.
- 00:32 They have no hobbies.
- 00:34 They have no passion projects.
- 00:37 Here's the interesting thing, if you look at the top Nobel Prize winning physicist,
- 00:43 those and other aspects of science, the people who win
- 00:47 the most do the best often have more hobbies than the non winners.
- 00:53 They often have two or more serious hobbies.
- 00:57 Now, hobby can be painting.
- 00:59 It could be fishing.
- 01:01 It could be riding your bicycle across the country.
- 01:06 It's about something you do for fun.
- 01:07 It's not for money, not necessarily for fame or attention.
- 01:12 It's just what you do for fun.
- 01:14 It could be woodworking.
- 01:17 It could be building brick walls.
- 01:20 But you need some time for leisure.
- 01:23 The great kings, the great leaders,
- 01:26 members of royalty have always enjoyed their leisure time.
- 01:32 And these days it doesn't have to be just a king, or
- 01:36 a prince, or a queen, it can be you.
- 01:39 What is your sense of how you deserve to use your leisure time?
- 01:45 If you're going to be successful in every other aspect of life,
- 01:49 you're going to have time, and it can't be just time making more money.
- 01:55 What is it you want to do?
- 01:56 What is your sense?
- 01:57 Did you always want to become a Polo player?
- 02:00 Did you always want to master the harp?
- 02:02 Start thinking now about your goals for
- 02:05 yourself when it comes to your leisure time.
- 02:09 The final sphere where you really need to come up with your goals for
- 02:14 life, wealth, your finances.
- 02:16 How much money do you need to have, to make,
- 02:19 in order for you to be personally satisfied?
- 02:23 And the answer can't just be more.
- 02:25 If the answer is more, you'll never be happy.
- 02:30 You will die a dissatisfied person, and that would be a shame.
- 02:35 Too many people I speak with have never really thought about this clearly.
- 02:38 I'll ask, so my friends are associates, how much money do you need to be
- 02:42 considered successful, to accomplish what you want?
- 02:46 And so often the number is 50 million, $100 million dollars,
- 02:50 and I always ask, well, what would you do with that?
- 02:54 And then they're like look at surprise on the face.
- 02:57 Well, I'd buy a private jet so I could travel anywhere.
- 03:01 And then I point out, but you can travel anywhere now.
- 03:05 And it's easier than buying a jet, maintaining a jet, managing a pilot,
- 03:10 a co-pilot, all the things associated with managing your own flight.
- 03:16 Well, yeah, but I could go anytime I want.
- 03:18 Save me time.
- 03:19 No, it actually takes a lot of time to buy a plane,
- 03:23 hire a pilot, all the management things there.
- 03:28 Well, I'll be so rich I can hire someone to do that.
- 03:31 Yeah, but now you have to hire the person you trust in charge of a multi
- 03:35 million dollar project.
- 03:37 That takes a lot of time.
- 03:38 Turns out, if you want to fly to Paris, or if you want to fly to Tokyo,
- 03:44 you can just do it right now with what's in your bank account.
- 03:49 I'm not saying everyone can, but the friends I'm speaking to,
- 03:53 that was no problem.
- 03:54 What turns out is they didn't really have a sense of what they would spend
- 03:59 the money on.
- 04:00 It's just a sense of that gives more comfort, you could do anything.
- 04:04 Here's the real tragedy for many people across the globe,
- 04:09 once they get to a certain level of affluence, and it's not that much,
- 04:14 in the US it's only about 60,000 dollars or so.
- 04:18 Once you get beyond that level, additional money doesn't seem to get
- 04:22 that much more happiness for people, that much more fulfillment.
- 04:27 Yes, all things being equal, more money is often helpful and reduces stress.
- 04:34 But how much money do you need?
- 04:36 Have a specific goal.
- 04:40 Now, I won't bore you with the famous stories of certain movie stars who
- 04:44 wrote 10 or 20 million dollar checks to themselves and it was fulfilled later.
- 04:49 You don't have to make 20 million dollars a movie to be successful and
- 04:53 to have accomplished your goals.
- 04:57 But you do need to have some specific amount in mind for what your goals are.
- 05:04 And more important, what will that money get you?
- 05:08 Remember, money in and of itself is worthless.
- 05:12 No one truly values money.
- 05:14 They may say they do, but what people value is what money buys.
- 05:19 It can buy a home, college educations, boats,
- 05:23 cars, fancy clothes, vacations, respect.
- 05:28 But how much of that do you need?
- 05:32 And how much money do you need to support family and
- 05:36 charities and causes you care about?
- 05:40 That's what I want you to give real thought about.
- 05:43 And as I mentioned before, I have this one last because what I have found is that
- 05:49 if you are going down the path of lifelong learning, and you're creating,
- 05:54 and you're building good relationships with people you work with, and everything
- 06:00 else in your life is in alignment, typically, the wealth will come.
- 06:05 It doesn't mean you shouldn't have specific goals.
- 06:08 But if you're focusing on your career, learning, creating,
- 06:13 sharing your ideas with the world, the wealth will come.
