Presentation
With our final logo in place we can work on how we want to present it.
When to use
After creating our logos we can begin thinking about how we want to present them in our document. Presentation is an often overlooked aspect of the process but it is still something that should be considered and thoughtfully designed.
Instructions
- Open the the Presentation - Exercise.ai file
- Unlock the BG Layer along with the Texture Logo and Clean Logo layers
- Reorder the layers so that the Texture Logo is below the Clean Logo
- Select the background behind the Texture Logo and delete it
- Grab your Artboard Tool from the toolbar and then select your second artboard and delete that as well
- With your Artboard Tool still selected, extend your first artboard so that it spans across both logos
- Press 'V' to get your Selection Tool and then click on the background shape behind your Clean Logo
- Grab the handle on the right side of the dark orange rectangle and drag it to the right so that it fills in the entire width of your extended artboard going behind both logos
- Once you have extended your background shape, go ahead and lock the BG Layer
- Click and drag around your Texture Logo with your regular Selection Tool and then press Command/Ctrl+G to make sure that it's grouped together
- Hold the Shift Key and tap the Texture Logo over to the right
- Select your Clean Logo and hold the Shift Key and then tap it to the right as well to move it away from the left edge of the artboard
- You can extend your artboard on both sides at the same time by dragging the side of either handle outwards while holding Alt/Option
- After extending the width of the artboard, unlock the BG Layer and do the same with the background shape so that it again matches the width of your artboard
- Space your logos apart a bit more and then grab your Pen Tool (P)
- Click towards the top of the artboard in between both logos, and then hold the Shift Key and make another point towards the bottom to create a straight line or a divider
- Select the line and then use your Eyedropper Tool (I) to sample one of the colors from the logo
- Press Shift+X to swap the fill and stroke colors so you have a solid color line
- Use your Stroke Panel to increase the weight of the dividing line to about 4 points
- Select the line and cut it by pressing Command/Ctrl+X and then create a New Layer named 'Divider' and paste the shape in front by pressing Command/Ctrl+F on the keyboard
Hints & tips
- You can extend your background shape, artboard, or anything else on the sides or the top and bottom simultaneously by dragging one of the handles of the bounding box while holding the Alt/Option keys.
- It is always a good idea to make sure that your logos work well at a smaller size since they won't always be seen large. To do this hold the Alt/Option+Shift keys and drag inwards from any of the four corners of the bounding box to reduce the size from the center.

- 00:05 All right, so we're now in a pretty good place where we can begin thinking
- 00:08 about the presentation of our final logos.
- 00:10 So the first thing I wanna do here is unlock the BG layer, CLEAN LOGO layer,
- 00:13 and TEXTURE LOGO layer.
- 00:15 And I'm just gonna drag the TEXTURE LOGO layer so it's underneath the CLEAN LOGO.
- 00:19 And that could just be me but I think it's a little bit easier,
- 00:22 it makes more sense just going from left to right and having them be in order.
- 00:26 So what I wanna do from here is select the background on my TEXTURE LOGO layer and
- 00:30 I'm actually going to delete it.
- 00:32 I'll then grab my Artboard tool and delete this third Artboard.
- 00:35 And the reason I'm doing that is because I now want to just extend my
- 00:39 original Artboard and make it wider so
- 00:42 that both versions of our logo can live in that space.
- 00:45 Okay, so once I'm happy with the placement and size of my Artboard,
- 00:49 I'll just press V to get my selection tool, select my original BG shape here,
- 00:53 and I'm just going to extend it so that it fills in the entire width of that shape.
- 00:57 And I can go ahead and lock that layer.
- 00:59 And the next thing I wanna do is select my entire texture logo and
- 01:03 press Cmd+G to make sure that that is all grouped together.
- 01:07 And I'm just gonna hold down the Shift key and tap it over maybe two times.
- 01:11 Then while that's still selected, I'll grab my clean logo, tap it over a few more
- 01:15 times just to give it a little bit of breathing room on the edges.
- 01:19 And if you want to, you can always come back to your original Artboard and
- 01:24 extend it on both sides by dragging outwards by holding down Alt+Option.
- 01:28 Okay, and same thing with the background, select it, hold down Alt+Option, and
- 01:33 then drag from either of the handles on the side.
- 01:35 And one other thing that I like to do, as I've been saying throughout,
- 01:39 is to make sure that these logos will read at a smaller size.
- 01:42 So I'm gonna select both of the logos, hold down Alt+Option+Shift, and
- 01:46 then drag them down.
- 01:47 And then I'm gonna scale them down from the center.
- 01:49 So if you remember, the way to do that is holding Alt+Option+Shift and
- 01:53 just bringing them down in size.
- 01:56 Now it's important to make sure that your logo looks good and everything reads at
- 01:59 this size, because there will be times where you're not seeing it this close up.
- 02:03 It may be printed on a business card or an insignia on a shirt or something like
- 02:07 that, and we just wanna check to make sure that it still looks good, which it does.
- 02:12 So that's the kind of legibility or readability test that I like to give and
- 02:16 put all my logos through.
- 02:19 So as far as our presentation goes,
- 02:21 I think that this is gonna be a good start for us.
- 02:23 And one other thing that we may wanna take a look at is perhaps adding a little
- 02:27 divider between these two logos.
- 02:29 So if I give it just a little bit more space on the sides, you can come in here
- 02:34 with the Pen tool and just click and hold down Shift and make a straight line.
- 02:38 And what I'm gonna do is maybe sample some of these colors.
- 02:42 So I'll try the bright yellow color and then press Shift+X to make it a stroke.
- 02:47 Now from here, I wanna make the line a little bit thicker.
- 02:49 So to do that I'll open my Stroke panel, and
- 02:52 we can just increase the weight to about 4.
- 02:55 And now we have this kind of dividing line in between the two.
- 03:00 Now, it's not absolutely essential to add this line here.
- 03:03 But it can be kind of a nice way just to break it up a little bit and
- 03:07 to separate these logos even more when it comes to presenting this.
- 03:12 Because, ideally, we would have both versions here labeled in a clean document.
- 03:17 So adding a stroke like this can just be a nice kind of element to have in here
- 03:21 to break this up.
- 03:23 So it's totally optional.
- 03:25 If you do wanna keep it, cool.
- 03:26 I would recommend maybe just cutting it, adding it on a new layer and
- 03:31 just calling it something like divider or rule.
- 03:34 And then be sure to save your work.
