In this lesson we look at the importance of blogs and how to use them to get results.
When to use
Blog posts on topics relevant to your market or industry that incorporate popular keywords can help your ideal client find you online.
Instructions
Offer item of value to prospects, clients
- Written content, embed videos or podcasts.
- Establish yourself as a market leader, expert in your industry
Blog integrated on your website or not
- Could be integrated on website alongside homepage, products/service page, contact page
- Doesn’t have to sit on your website – can be separate e.g. Wordpress, Tumblr
Write about topics relevant to your market or industry.
- Things of interest, currents events, unique perspective.
- What is on the mind of your ideal client, what are they interested in?
- e.g. a real estate agent could write about current home prices, interest rates, etc, which is topical and of interest to their ideal clients. This information is important to someone anting to sell/buy a house.
- Gives the impression you are an expert in your industry.
Google News alerts
- Pick a particular subject, and receive an email when there are relevant articles
- Use this as the basis for a blog post, either sharing the link or writing an article summary
Make sure to use keywords for search engines to find and links to items of value.
- SEO = Search Engine Optimization
- SEO keywords are key words and phrases in your content that help people find your blog or website through search engines.
For example, if you are a wedding planner, and you often get asked how to choose the right DJ for a wedding, do a blog post on this topic.
- Call it “how to choose a DJ for your wedding”
- Highlight key words and add a hyperlink to your product or service, or shopping cart
- e.g. add a link to the words “wedding DJ” that goes to your website’s DJ services page.
- Google knows people are searching the terms “how to find a DJ”. They see your blog post features these key words, and the links are relevant. This helps push you up in the search rankings so that people can find your blog post.
- Your ideal client may come across your blog post through search or sharing, and contact you for their wedding.

- 00:13 It's a really good way for you to add an item of value, just massive value
- 00:18 to your client, to your prospects to somebody who comes across your blog and
- 00:22 you're establishing yourself as a market leader.
- 00:25 As an expert in your industry or your market okay so
- 00:30 it adds the value we've talked about it quite a bit in those other videos,right?
- 00:33 It could be written, it could be a video, it could be an audio, it could even be
- 00:38 a podcast, right, you can take that podcast and embed it into your blog.
- 00:44 Really, what is a blog?
- 00:45 A blog is a page on your website.
- 00:48 You have your homepage, you have your services page, your contact page, and
- 00:52 then you also have a blog.
- 00:54 That blog doesn't have to sit on your home page, as well.
- 00:57 There's other resources out there like Tumbler, WordPress, or others.
- 01:02 And you can take those blogs and
- 01:05 integrate them into your website or the blog can sit on its own, right?
- 01:09 So you can do it either way.
- 01:11 The best thing you need to do is make sure you find a platform that's right for you.
- 01:16 Okay, so you've got that blog.
- 01:18 So what do you put in the blog?
- 01:20 You put in those items of value.
- 01:22 So something of interest in your market, right?
- 01:25 So it could be a current event.
- 01:27 What's going on in the market?
- 01:28 What's going on in the world?
- 01:30 What's on the mind of your ideal client?
- 01:34 it could be your unique perspective and
- 01:37 something that's happening in your market, okay.
- 01:39 So if you're a real estate agent and
- 01:41 you're looking at what home prices are up or down or, are interest rates up, or
- 01:45 interest rates are down, that's great content, right?
- 01:48 Because if I'm looking to buy or sell a home, is that information important to me?
- 01:52 You bet and if you're the expert and you know then hey,
- 01:56 I might want to call you up to help sell my house or buy a home with you, okay.
- 02:01 This is one of my ninja secrets.
- 02:03 Do you guys want a ninja secret?
- 02:05 Okay, I love Google News, okay?
- 02:08 They're not paying me to do this but this is something that I use.
- 02:11 Google News alerts and you can pick a specific subject in your marketplace.
- 02:16 So for me, I pick costumer service.
- 02:18 So, when Google find something that comes up, an article in Google News,
- 02:23 It'll shoot me an email and It'll have a link to the customer service.
- 02:27 And what's great about that is it comes right to my inbox, I click on it and
- 02:31 I can read about customer service.
- 02:34 And you can put in any subject that you want.
- 02:37 Something into manufacturing, into cars, into homes, whatever it is and
- 02:41 you can get as specific as you want and whenever those articles come up,
- 02:45 now you've got something where you can draw to put into your blog.
- 02:49 You can take something and put a link to that article in there.
- 02:52 Or you can take that, read that article, summarize it and
- 02:55 send it out to your prospects and in your marketing.
- 02:58 It's a great tool and something that will really help you,
- 03:01 make sure you've got great content for your blog.
- 03:03 Makes sense?
- 03:04 Okay, good.
- 03:06 Next, keywords and links throughout the writing.
- 03:09 So for example, let's say you're a wedding planner, and
- 03:12 you get a lot of questions of how to choose the right DJ, okay?
- 03:17 Write a blog about it, or shoot it in a video, or do an audio and
- 03:21 you call it How to Choose a DJ.
- 03:24 And throughout the writing,
- 03:25 throughout the video, right, you talk about this is how you choose a DJ.
- 03:30 How do you choose a DJ?
- 03:31 This is how you do it.
- 03:32 Choose a DJ.
- 03:33 Now, there's something called a hyperlink.
- 03:36 A hyperlink is when you mention a word in the blog, you highlight it,
- 03:41 you put a hyperlink to it, and it will take you to another web address.
- 03:45 Okay, now, in that other web address could be a number of different things, but
- 03:49 it's where you have your call to action.
- 03:52 So, it could take them to a sales page of your website.
- 03:56 That link, that hyperlink could take them to your landing page.
- 04:00 It could take them to your opt-in page.
- 04:01 It could take them wherever you want.
- 04:04 It could take them to a shopping cart.
- 04:05 Right?
- 04:06 Wherever you want to take them but you highlight those keywords.
- 04:09 Now what ends up happening is Google will say okay,
- 04:12 people are looking for how to hire a DJ.
- 04:16 Well look this blog has it all throughout here, right?
- 04:19 And there's links to different things.
- 04:21 Google likes that.
- 04:22 They're going to push you up in the rankings.
- 04:23 And when they push you up in the rankings what happens?
- 04:26 Now more people see that blog.
- 04:28 Now you've got more people that of your ideal client that are looking for that.
- 04:32 And if you're a wedding planner, now you're giving this great advise.
- 04:35 You're an expert.
- 04:36 When they need a wedding planner, they may call you.
- 04:39 Or they may share it on their social media, right?
- 04:41 People share blogs on social media all the time.
- 04:44 And somebody who's getting married, now might see you.
- 04:47 And that's your ideal client piece, okay.
- 04:50 Hope that make sense, so to recap, do a blog, put an item of value in it,
- 04:55 written, video or audio, could be a podcast you embed in there as well.
- 05:00 Make sure something interest in your market, a current event,
- 05:03 a unique perspective.
- 05:04 If you wanna get some more content, go to Google News Alerts and
- 05:08 find out about getting Google News alerts into your inbox on a particular subject
- 05:13 in your marketplace.
- 05:15 Use keywords throughout the writings of your blogs, right?
- 05:18 Even if you transcribe In your video make sure you are using that key phrase is
- 05:23 in your video so that Google will see it and it will push you up in the ranking so
- 05:27 that more people will be exposed to your business and message.
- 05:30 Okay and if you are looking for a platform, Tumblr, WordPress, others.
- 05:34 Just google blog platforms.
- 05:36 And if you don't know how to put it together yourself, that's okay.
- 05:40 There is lots of people that can help you do this, okay.
